The price of motor vehicle fuel will go up January 1st in California between 16 cents and 76 cents per gallon according to a news story I heard today. It appears that a new tax will go into effect on that date and it's sure to catch a lot of people flat footed.

Fox news is calling it a tax, but it is actually a new Eco standard refineries must meet which will cost them money, and since their record profits are unassailable, unquestionable , they will just pass the cost to the consumer, and as California goes, so goes the rest of the nation.

I AM ASS UMING DIESEL IS INCLUDED? please no poly-ticks. As an avid cycler I hope this moves people away from unneeded driving habits.

I never mentioned anything political up to this point, sometimes though, it's hard to keep ones mouth shut. I'll keep the poly- ticks to a minimum.

I know with the way things are It is easy to start ranting, not pointing a finger especially at you
Luis, hope to see you at the upcoming RTR perhaps we should all top off our tanks on Dec. 31st LOL

I'll be coming from Jersey where the prices are still "cheaper", if I'm able to attend.

My next van will run on water. Free fuel, until the government gets it's hands on...sorry, here I go again. : )

As stated above, this is not a tax per gallon, but a fee against the refineries. A fee attempting to reduce greenhouse gases, a good thing.
This will pass on as increased gasoline wholesale charges. As the gasoline sales fall off do-to increased price, the brands will lower their profit point to again increase sales.
Of course USA gasoline prices are comparatively cheap, when considering oil is a limited resource taking much effort to get from field to pump. Increased gasoline costs will help spur advancements in solar and other renewable energy sources.
My op is electricity is the future and the future has been delayed by cheap motor fuel.

Not wanting to get political, the solution to the energy problems or lack thereof, is not the the government to dictate how much things cost, or what and when new technologies should emerge, but with supply and demand. Case in point; the IPhone. Most everyone loves the product, and it's good to boot. The government didn't demand that Apple build a smart phone, innovative people did that, and made tons of money doing and selling what people want to buy.
Another case in point: The Chevy Volt. Mandated by the government, full electric, costs a fortune, doesn't work how it should and nobody wants it, even with government subsidies.
Eventually, some genius on his/her own will invent better ways to move around, better or different fuels, completely different technologies based on what works and what people actually can afford and want to buy. Supply and demand.

Innovative genius who build a product people want at prices they can afford are successful, people like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and Henry Ford just to mention a few.

My apologies. I still love everyone regardless of political views, or religious beliefs, but sometimes it's hard to keep my mouth shut, in this case, my fingers still.

Higher gas prices are simply a fact of life today. They go up, drop back down a little, go up again.....
Like taxes. We don't like it, but then we don't make the laws and regulations.
I once considered setting up to make biodiesel. But it takes a lot of time and effort, and more and more the municipalities are buying up all the restaurant cooking oil and other waste oils and cooking their own biodiesel for their fleets.
The 'little guy' just can't win.
There are some Youtube videos on a guy who is working to develop a way to use pressure and temperature to refine waste plastic into usable oil. That looks very interesting! Imagine all our plastic trash becoming vehicle and home heating fuel. Fantastic idea! But the goobermint will shut it down unless they can tax it.

boy how do you reply to this post without getting political and going against everything the mainstream elite tell us? so I will shut up. highdesertranger

Highdesert, Plenty of political forums out in the cyber realm. Some real interesting people I might add.

Gas prices continue to climb. Nothing new.

We do make the laws and regulations. The government are people just like you and me. Sometimes we dont realize this. Most times we dont care enough to want to realize it. But almost all the time we are too busy with just surviving to have the time to work together to better us as a whole. We look out only for ourselves. As this mind state carries with many people, these same people get into a government position and continue looking out only for themselves. We depend on the people in government to make the right decisions for us and with this mind state, it will not always happen. when it is the wrong decision, we just say, cest la vie. One day, it will be different.

I beg to differ. "We The People" do NOT make the laws these days. I don't want to get political, but there is a very great difference between what WE want and what is being decided for us.
All commodities - fuel, food, energy, water, etc. - are a weapon used to control society.
Prices continue upwards, regulations are increased without our input, and our buying power is decreasing. Simple facts of life.
Have you looked into the actions of the EPA and FDA lately?
