Folding Desk Top // Easy Build Good design

this is a Real Nice - Super Easy to make - FOLDING Desk Top -
No Henges -

this desk is a Great design for Van/RV use -
Like it was made for it- 

Made using 1/2" 9 layer plywood for desk top-side boards- cleats-
shelves - 
used regular Lowes 1/2" plywood for back board

I changed the design a little -

made Cleat that Holds desk top to More of a V shape
so desk top can pushed into V to hold desk top Firmly -
No rattling -

Added 2nd set of Cleats a little lower so I can have 2 desk heights -

I did not use the Pin design to hold desk from sliding out -
Not needed for me - Complicated to build -

I made Side Boards 6 inch deep -
Desk top 16 inches deep -

Desk width to match what U need -
Desk top 31 inches high 
added several Pins to hold desk top when folded up -

construction video is Very good and easy to fallow

how it works - rest of video shows construction-
added a few more small compartments /shelves

If he put a shelf on top of those cleats, you could keep things inside when the door was opened and closed. As it is now anything inside would keep the door from sliding into place, (the door would run into the stuff).

My "desk" is one of the fold down doors on the cabinet. It's only about 12 inches deep, but it's 5 feet wide. Plenty of room for my laptop, plate or whatever else I use on it.

That design works great... if you aren't bouncing down the road. In a van, that lose desktop would be bouncing out all the time.

Desk top is held firmly in place because of V on cleats -

I did add several shelves / compartments inside desk that are covered
when top is closed -

also all the shelves are Slanted so stuff wont fall out -

Slanted shelves work Amazingly well - 12 degree slant

have not had anything fall off any of the slanted shelves -
even bags of cloths -
Bouncing tends to make stuff move towards van wall and not fall

I converted ALL of my shelves to slanted now
before when I had Level shelves stuff was falling daily-
got real tired of picking stuff up off floor
