Anyone have any luck with folding beds? They're lightweight, and it seems like the space-saving ability to fold would be a clear winner. Thoughts?

If it's one of those folding seat/beds that came with the van, most people find out that they are the most uncomfortable sleeping ever. The seam is lengthwise down the middle so that you gravitate towards the seam. The bench seat was made primarily for seating not sleeping so the foam is rather firm. Suggest try sleeping on it in the driveway so you can move to your own bed in the middle of the night.

If it's one of the 3 fold beds available in big box stores it might be more comfortable. The downside of a folding bed is that you still have to leave the full amount of room to put it in to sleep mode so you're not saving any space. There is also no storage under them so then you have to figure out where else to put things.

I suspect you don't realize there are thousands of folding beds designs around and hundreds of variations of them get used in van builds. So maybe the best way to get a relevant answer is to post a photo of the specific folding bed you want to know about.

Folding beds get to be tedious. Usually sooner rather than later. I had one in my class c and in the van. Folding and unfolding one is a PITA (pain in the arse) Not so bad when you're parked for a length of time. But when you're traveling and you want to get up and go or pull over and sleep they're hard to appreciate.

A folded bed just rearranges the mass of the bed within the space you have. The space you rearrange it into was already empty, or there were other things there that need to be moved to make space for it, and those things usually end up where the bed was. As said above, all that rearranging can get tedious, and sometimes it's like playing Tetris. The best space-saving practice is to put less stuff in the space to begin with.

yea 'change and put work into making another item' is a pain. a lot of rv'ers who have kids and want them to sleep in the 'dinnette' means changing the set up a lot....stinks and they sell and buy a bunkhouse floorplan LOL

best is have it easy. Like in murphy bed style. down comes the whole bed. done. up goes the whole bed, done.

so if the bed folds and is not used for other things and gives space, then yes they are great.....if they are required for other things then nope, just a pain ya have to deal with.
