Oh that's a nice article. I never thought of putting a table on the rear doors.

I think it could be done with much lighter weight plywood considering the size of the project. Baltic birch plywood is quite strong as it has a lot of plys compared to some of the construction grade plywoods that have a lot of voids in the plys. Of course it is often a case of using what one is given for free as a gift for such a small project. Scraps are great!

Agreed. Often times the home depot sells "cull" lumber. I've made plenty of projects from this stuff. It could be 2x4s that have large indents from where the steel straps bound them in shipment. Or a small section of plywood a customer wanted trimmed off. I forget the exact prices of my local HD but I think it was 51 cents, $1.51 $2.51 $3.51 depending on the size and grade of lumber.

around here(So Cal) cull lumber at Home Depot is 70% off retail price. highdesertranger

Very good info. I'm in the Atlanta metro area and there is a lot of construction and DIY. Theirs are a set price.

Good ideas. Extra space, places to hang things and easy to build.

I was just thinking that it might even be a nice little side business for a van dweller to make a lighter in weight version of these fold down tables. Quite a few people travel with saws, drill motors and such.
