I currently have a Lucid 8 inch foam bed with 6 inch medium foam and 2 inch memory foam. I've had it for about 18 months and find it is compressing after an hour or two. Thus I wake up in a fairly deep "pit" if you will.

Im thinking of getting a new foam mattress but want something very comfortable.

Any recommendations?

What density will support my weight but still be comfortable?

I weigh about 220Lbs.

Have you been rotating the mattress every three months?

If not, then you should be. Since it appears from the description at Amazon that the 2" is attached to the 6" foam, you're not able to completely rotate it by turning it over but you can still turn it end to end.

BTW, did you check your warranty on it, the one at Amazon.com shows a 25 year warranty.

If you do replace it and like a fairly firm mattress, I recommend going to a medium density sofa foam. Buy the mattress topper separately so that you can do a full rotation on the two pieces of foam...flip over and rotate 180 every three months.

How firm a mattress each one of us needs is entirely individual. What I find comfortable you might find hard as rocks etc.

I'm quite comfortable on a 3" thick medium sofa foam with a 1" W/M pad over it. I'd like to go to 2" top pad, it's on the shopping list for this fall!!

Great info thanks! I think I need to go to a foam store and make comparisons.

Try an upholstery shop!

They're likely the only ones' who will carry sofa density foam - it is different from standard bed foam.

I figured out the hard way that I prefer sofa foam for sleeping on. I kept falling asleep on my sofa, would wake up feeling fine. Then would crawl in to my bed for the rest of the night and would wake up feeling achy all over. The bed foam was the culprit. I ended up just spending the night on the sofa for the last six months I was in the apartment.

I use a 3 inch xx firm natural latex and after 5 years have never felt the bottom.

agreed with Almost There, I thought i was getting a good price on a foam mattress from a mattress shop, but I may as well be laying on the platform
the foam that came with the trailer was much better, but stank of mildew, so it had to go
I'd get more sofa foam, but if I ever get my cabin done, I have a queen innerspring that sleeps pretty good and is already paid for

Hmmm, I need a new mattress in the travel trailer I just bought and like Almost Theres advice on using sofa cushion foam. I've always slept better on couches than on a conventional mattress. Time to see if there are any local upholstery shops that sell it.

I've been sleeping on a 65x48x5 inch V34 Everflex medium firm foam from here:

http://www.foamorder.com/foam_mattress.html

After 9 years of my 220 LB mass, the center is no softer than the edges. Can't say the same about other foams i have used previously form the upholstery shop. They were softer, too soft, where compressed the most, in 6 months

Not cheap but I like sleeping comfortably and this 5 inch thick mattress has delivered.
