Wash your hands often, don't get to close to anyone, really do you need to speak to that friend that close? Take your good vitamins and get good healthy exercise. And if you are sick stay away from people. and take care to take care of yourself. Doc visits, med., stay comfy as much as you can, drink lots of fluids, and eat applesauce and chicken soup even if only in tiny bits at a time. Pedialyte and Tylenol are your friends...
I have a killer immune system after 40 yrs as a preschool teacher, but I never miss a year without getting my flu shot. If you don't get one that's up to you. But me I know they work. If you are getting the 'flu' right after getting a shot it is because you were already exposed and would have been sick anyway. The shots take 2-3-4 weeks to be fully effective so waiting until you have been exposed is not really going to work.
Change your toothbrush and wash your pillow when you are finely over the worst of it and are fever free. I asked a Doc once what I could do to keep from respreading the nasty cold around and around my family one bad year. He asked if we all had changed our toothbrushes... We all did that and the cold went away finely (because of that or not, didn't care) now anytime I or someone gets sick we get new toothbrushes...
So far this year the staff were I work is full with first year young people and EVERY single one of them is struggling. While us old timers have so far remained flu free. But also we old timers know get that flu shot early in the fall.
