I have taken a new job on a very old military base in North Carolina while caring for grandma as she goes through C treatments - The buildings are beautiful but have poor insulation, boiler radiators no longer in use & new inefficient heatpump systems that barely heat...

Anywho - I want to heat just my cubicle - Other folks here have standing electric oil filled radiator style heaters or electric coil fan heaters.

I've seen these (below) under desk heaters for several years but havent seen any1 try in a vehicle - I'll be ordering on for my desk but wonder how effective they maybe in well insulated vehicles? What's true power consumption and time to sufficiently heat - One says convection and most are 400W or less...

Photos are links... What are your thoughts???

There was some discussion here a few years back. I think the impression I got was they didn’t produce enough heat more than a few inches away to notice. Most people ended up with electric blankets but at the time they weren’t very durable and people worried about shorts or burns. In a good well insulated teardrop in mild weather they might do fine and possibly do so on solar.

It is not about the heater. The issue is you can’t keep the heat from escaping towards the cold in a vehicle as they are not sufficiently insulated to prevent that. Get some decent down winter wear and a down sleeping bag and don’t forget a warm hat, socks and gloves. Those will help keep your body heat from escaping. Your own body is your most reliable heater that is constantly producing heat.
