I’ve searched the forum posts on this topic to no avail. How hard Is It to find fresh or frozen fish on the road? Do you mostly have to go to Walmart?

I'd try searching for the state you're in and "fish locker," "meat locker," or "seafood locker" and then calling the businesses to ask if they have local fish available. Even if they don't carry it they might be able to point you in the right direction. I just tried for my MN and found a bunch of businesses advertising fresh fish, but they (fish lockers) might not be a nationwide thing. Good luck.

Every supermarket I have shopped has had fresh, previous frozen, and frozen fish. I have been to many fish markets and stores. I find shtuf like that using google maps search.

you can find it mostly anywhere in any decent grocery.
coastal you have it made on fish.
inland, go fishing, fresh as you can get over your campfire
restaurants usually have a fish on the menu, well, maybe fish and chips if you are lucky and it is a good one at that LOL
fish sticks in frozen section of any store if you are super desperate HA

You can even find fish patties and sticks in dollar stores and some convenience stores.

As to fresh, fresh is defined in funny ways these days, the definition quite often including being frozen when caught. Good luck.

Good point Dingfelder.

OP - what exactly are you looking for when you say "fresh"?

Yes I prefer IQF, individualy quick frozen fish when I can get it to fresh fish these days. They are flash frozen on the boa. And yes I am a pretty good fisherman, so will be eating lots of trout and catfish

fresh or frozen fish on the road?

Wouldn't they have to be flying fish to land on the road? I have heard of fish falling out of clouds that had waterspouts, but not seen this personally.     ~crofter

(best fish - Indian tribes that do fishing will sell fresh fish, and they are right off the hook)

If you pass through Why, AZ right close to Coyote Howls East is Rocky Point Seafood.  Nice family business with flash frozen seafood of many types.

If u come through KY I have a few bass I need taken out of my pond. I need to increase the number of bluegill and I think I have too many bass. I have a nice place to camp at my pond too.

"The road" isn't another planet. It's just a bunch of places similar to wherever you are now. A few generations ago (you know, back when Walmart was only in Arkansas and Starbucks was just a joint in Seattle) different parts of the country were very distinct. Now it's very homogenized when it comes to goods and services.

I'm not far from Lake Michigan & lots of people fish off the piers or boats & will give you nice salmon or perch as they just enjoy catching it. You can't sell game fish but you can pay there gas kind of like private pilots can't charge but you can share expenses to keep it legal.

be careful and read the regs where ever you are at. every state i have fished in i could share expenses with another fisherman that went fishing with me. but not some bloke on the dock that wasnt out fishing. most states allow gifting of fish but might restrict it to like license holders or require the person receiving the gifted fish to get and keep significant info from the person gifting the fish like their fishing license, id and address.

it might not be something one is liable to get caught doing, but dont assume it is legit because it was posted on the internet.

read the regs that apply or take the chance youre breaking the law. when you end up in front of the judge, "i didnt know that" generally doesnt cut it...
