Entertainment while boondocking, specifically radio.

Well, an iPod wouldn't be of much use to me since I really don't listen to music much. I prefer information radio, not just politics, but all kinds of information. I also enjoy listening to books being read on the radio and Wisconsin Public Radio has a great program called Chapter a Day that does that.

I also know that FM radio reception is line of sight and it depends a lot on the station's signal strength. AM radio can get pretty funky, especially at night, when signals can bounce all over an you can get stations hundreds of miles away.

I've been lurking here for a bit, but I couldn't resist throwing in my two cents! If and when you have Internet, you can subscribe to Relic Radio's (free) podcasts at http://www.relicradio.com/otr/ . Classic radio shows really make the time pass. I've had my daughter hooked on them since she was little. Now that she's 18, she can hardly go to bed without hearing one. Thank heavens those cigarette commercials haven't worked on her.

I just had a look at the Amazon.ca website and.. HOORAYYY!!.. used to be pretty crappy compared to the USA version, couldn't get diddly-squat, but now they've got the good stuff like decent SW radios and NiMH chargers. Think I'm gonna get one of those prepaid Visa cards (they don't take PayPal AFAIK) and pick me up some decent stuff. Being in Canada, getting stuff from Amazon.com can be a real bear; won't ship some stuff here and, if they do, higher costs and brokerage fees + longer wait times.
I've wanted a decent SW radio for years, but it was too difficult to get one. Was also looking at this one: http://www.amazon.com/Tecsun-PL390-...rs/dp/B004NQHR12/ref=pd_sxp_grid_pt_0_2 It has a line-in jack, so I could hook up my computer to it and use it as a set of speakers. ..Willy.

I use TUNEIN radio 95% of the time..I was paying 2 years at a time for SIRUS. I cancelled early. ..and they gave me a 240 dollar credit to my bank account...sweet! !

As the original poster, I must say I don't listen to the radio for music but primarily for news and information. I enjoy listening to intelligent talk shows and call-in shows where callers ask intelligent and thoughtful questions, just good radio programs on interesting topics. I don't enjoy listening to talking heads who spew their hate, prejudice, and small minded drivel.

Now as far as music goes (and I have worked as a DJ at both a progressive rock and an oldies station) I listen to my own cds or mp3s. I really only listen to music in my car while driving, not in the house. I don't need radio to listen to music.

I am addicted to Audible for books and iTunes has a ton of free podcasts. TED, This American Life, Car Talk, Morning Edition... Gave up on commercial radio years ago.

I picked up a G-Project blue tooth speaker, water resistant and rugged, AA batts or plug in.
http://www.amazon.com/G-Project-Por...=1374661245&sr=1-2&keywords=g+project

I have my phone loaded with a few gigs of music I like and can transmit the music to speaker from over 30ft away. Great for working around the camper, fishing or whatever. I also keep myself entertained with a old school kindel, amazing battery life!!! and a Yeasu hand held HAM. Sometimes I get fed up with all the tech, put it away and bust out some of my favorite book for another reading.
