I'm headed to the RTR in Jan. from Kentucky. Short days and cold nights for car camping. Can't decide to do 3 long days, breaking camp in the dark or 4 shorter days and daylight.

If you are traveling in January there is a possibility of cold weather in and around New Mexico which slowed me down years ago. I used to travel from Tucson to Ashland for the holidays. Look at it in miles and plan for some late starts and early stops as daylight hours are less this time of year. In my opinion enjoying the trip is more important, after all that is what being a nomad is all about!

We are leaving NC on 11/1 headed to Phoenix. Trip is for 23 days with lots of time for side trips. We have a new granddaughter in AZ. Plan to winter in AZ and catch the RTR in January.
Any Plien Aire painters coming?
We will be back to NC in April for the kids & Drs!

My trip is straight I-40 with longer stays in cities I may not see again. I also want to check out some of the old route 66 just for the heck of it.
Hey Chris - where are you planning on getting on I-40? I don't normally convoy, but it might be nice on a 2K+ ride. If you aren't in a hurry (I quit that years ago!), we could roll together.
My wife and I are mostly Mid-Atlantic and South-Eastern US full-time, but I have one kid in Phoenix with a new granddaughter. Gotta winter in AZ!
