Have been thinking along the lines of getting a dirt bike 100-125 cc enduro
for trips to town. anyone just love what they have and willing to share. It's gotta fit on the rear of a 1 ton van. thanks

Honda CT90 or CT110 Trail...only 200 lbs. These were made from the 60's to '86 and most parts are still available. A decent one can be had for $700-$1000.

If you only drove on the street, a Honda or Yamaha scooter would do. There are many cheap Chinese made scooters available also but they aren't as reliable.

I'm not much of a trail rider so I have a suggestion if your not really into trail riding. The Honda Rebel 250 is an icon of small bikes. Light weight and great mileage. I had a Sportster but with my handicaps, I dropped it at a light one time and decided to get something I could pick up by myself and the Rebel just fits.

my recommendations:
honda ct90 or 110
kawasaki ke100(my pick)
crf100, ttr125 or drz125 that has been converted for street use
125 scooters are a little on the fat side, at over 250lbs the zuma 125 is the only one i would suggest even trying offroad

if you don't mind a little more weight you can get a bigger bike. i like the yamaha xt225, crf230l and kawasaki super sherpa. the wr250r and klx250s are very nice both on and off road but are a bit more spendy. i believe all of them are under 300lbs wet

I debated a Honda Trail 110 or a a Honda Rebel for a long time and finally got a Rebel. The reason is about half the year the only way into town is on a freeway or on a fast road and anything under 250 just can't do it and be safe. My Rebel has a higher gears and can cruise at 60 mph easily and I've never gotten below 70 MPG.

I'd strongly recommend any of the dual purpose 250s although they are usually geared pretty low and will struggle on a freeway. A 350 or 400 would be better

Good point. The top speed for the CT's is only about 50MPH so it's more of a campground/grocery-getter tiddler. If you will need to do much hiway driving they're not a good choice. I think in Cali the minimum size for freeway travel is 150cc.
