Delorme sold to Garmin

Delorme sold to Garmin.  Paper maps to be de-emphasized.  Wonder what that will mean for the future of the Gazetteers?  Glad I've got all mine already.

Delorme HQ 5 miles from me.
The scoop is Garmin bought it all.
Going to push their Sat Phones .
Gazetteers still happening.
Map store closing.
Lobby still will have the 42' spinning topo globe and that will still be open to the public.
Exit 17 on north side of 295 ,across the street from the welcome center/rest area.
The nothhbound exit ramp comes out right next to the DeLorme (Garmin) entrance
Got most of my atlas collection , going to miss the half off sales that they had at the map store at HQ though.

Hope they keep the gazettes going.  I use the GPS to augment the maps.  
I have been favoring the Magellan GPS gadgets though my smartphone with VZNavigator has proven more accurate.  No need to keep buying updates.  I do replace the Delorme books after a few years.

They have a product that is software loaded with all the topo maps from all the gazetteers.
With mapping plus trails etc . I'm going down and see if they are clearancing them . Always wanted one but haven't got one yet. I do have their GPS map software and like it but wanted to add the topo + offroad feature.

The globe will still be operating and open to the public.
Just closing the map store.
All 92 employees will still have jobs.....
