Hello! I was wondering if anyone is using a storage garage for a day room? I thought I read that someone was doing that. Here's are my thoughts...

I am thinking about renting a clean storage garage in a nearby small town where rental rates are very low. A portion of the garage (near the front) would be used for storing a few tools, possessions, etc. Toward the back (perhaps behind a partition) would be another section that could be used as a living room - complete with a recliner, pole lamp, end table, TV/ VCR, fan, the extra Mr. Buddy heater, etc...

If no electricty is available, I can run a cord in from the van inverter, if need be... The idea would be just to have a little space to spread out and relax but without spending the money for an apartment. In the city, a storage garage like that might run me $90 a month. A few miles from home it would be $50... Just a thought...

Is anyone doing this?

V.T.

Brad thats a wonderful idea. I plan to rent a storage room since I will be job camping. AC in the summer Heat in the winter. Oh you gave me ideas now!!

I have a friend that's a pack rat and has a number of storage garages around town. We're going to check out a garage that a friend of his has where I might be able to store some stuff for $40 / month. My friend said it would be a perhect place to set up a little living room and it's close to home....

VT

I know you can sit in your storage room and maybe read a book for a hour or too. For me it wouldnt be all day thing. I had a friend here who in the middle of cleaning his room sat down on his recliner and he was so tired he fell asleep. Nobody bothered him or told him he couldn't do that. And the door was wide open.

Another wrinkle... In Iowa many of the storage facilities are unstaffed and self-serve. If I rode my bike in, unlocked the garage, and then closed the door (blocking it to prevent entry) then nobody would know...

I just looked at a garage this morning. It was in a bad neighborhood and the door was defective... The things I liked were that it was at a private residence, had electricity, and a second door and window. I'm not so sure about it being extremely secure for valuables but it would be a nice place to hang out...

VT
