90's Dodge Ram Van, Wisconsin raised, former salt water fish store workhorse, and our blossoming home.
Maria, Alex, and Otto. Otto, the mutt dog. We don't know our vans name yet. But we never stop trying to discover it.
Used the cash gifts from our wedding day to buy a retired pet store van because it was dirt cheap and we stood to make a profit on repairing some cheap parts and cleaning it up a bit and reselling it and the plow that came with it but we have always had a soft spot for camper vans. In high school Alex bought a 73 Westy and we imagined we would see it to full restoration and have, effectively a gear and people hauler hippie van for the gang, which was comprised mostly of other friends we met through Scouting (Girls Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venture Scouts) but it turns out bus boys in mediocre restaurants in an "unincorporated" town don't make very much money and it would take us years to have anything we could use with the money and knowledge we had at the time. So Alex, put the van back together and sent it down the line to the next deadhead, then Alex used the money to buy a runner driver.
So fast forward 5 years, we've got this van and our buddy in the Great Smoky Mountains area invites us down for a long weekend, we get this bright idea to throw a futon mattress into the van which became an idea that grew and grew and we spent more and more time camping in the van. Here we are planning and changing our lifestyle in every way necessary to work toward the goal of living a nomadic life style in our van to begin when our lease is up May 2019 and to keep living in the van for as long as we can.
We've got a number of things on the to-do list and several things we are going to need some help with, Alex is a mechanic by trade and is focusing on treating the good ol Midwestern rust which has likely been contributed to by the salt water fish life our van lived before it became our adventuremobile. We have dark tinted pop out windows on each of the four doors but want to add another window opposite the passenger doors which would be over what will be our kitchen. vent fan, a solar energy system, serious storage concerns, a kitchen, and well...the list goes on.
Thats all for now folks. So, if you don't know what a dajiban is, go google it, its great.
