Whats up?

Has anyone ever seen a Ford Crown Vic converted to have a space for a bed going into the trunk or other Live-in conversions? Did a bit of internet searching today and couldn't find anything at all on the matter.

How difficult would it be to do this?

I'm not a mechanic or a carpenter or anything but I have working hands and can read pretty well last time I checked =D

Thanks!

Welcome, Funnyshoes!

Not necessarily a Crown Vic, but there are lots of examples of car/camper modifications. If it were me however, I'd get an aluminum cargo trailer, maybe 6x10, and build my bedroom there, and tow it with your Crown Vic.

Bob

Thats a good idea! Would have to install a trailer hitch though. Don't know how stealthy that would be as well.

I am contemplating holding out for a van or an suv, but a I love this car! Plus I own it outright. No payments! And My grandfather bought it when it had 11,000 miles on it (it has 190k now) so I know its been maintained.
Would looooove an old school 4runner though.

But anywho. I will look up car/camper conversions!

Thanks Bob!

-Tyler

Yes it does get surprisingly decent gas mileage for a v8! Plus its so comfortable to cruise around in. I'm considering a 4runner though. The vic performs less than exceptionally in the off road department.

All I really think I need is a place to comfortably sleep. I'm kind if terrified of old crappy vans to be honest haha.

I can't speak to a Crown Vic, but I modified my 2005 Honda Pilot into a camper. I removed the rear seats and built a wooden platform to fill the hole and provide a sleeping area. I added an upper shelf area to the platform for shelving/storage, modeled it after our Little Guy 5x5 Teardrop camper. Works really well for one person, no so well for two people. Hunting or traveling by myself its great, but we use the teardrop when its me and my wife...

Please a 4 runner is way to small... keep the crown Vic and work with it...

Great idea, but it's not only about some sleeping space. Did you think about some sort of a toilet, ability to wash and some storage?
Other than that, go for it. I'm working on a van with a little more space.

Van.

I don't know about the crown but here's an idea I am familiar with. We currently have a small fiberglass trailer ( 13 feet ) and have attended several get togethers of such small trailers. There is a person making a documentary about the tiny trailer community who kinda follows our get togethers. He drives an older Mercedes Benz passenger car that is converted to camper of sorts. His solution was to remove the front passenger seat and back seat. then he has run a single bed fore and aft that goes up under the dash on the passenger side and the rest of the back seat can accomodate a porta potty and room for quite a bit of "stuff". This configuration leaves the trunk still available for more storage. Lee p.s, If the car now has a bench seat in the front you could remove and replace with a nice bucket seat from the local salvage yard ( apparently they call them jumbles in merry old England I really like that ).

Hi furryfeet....I think it is a grand idea. I met a guy in a San Felipe, Mexico campground...on the Baja, who was traveling for extended periods and huge distances in his Saturn, I think it was.

He had a little bag of toiletries, about a half dozen shirts on hangers, his laptop, a quilt, pillows and was short enough to sleep in the back seat somehow...

He had been as far north as Alaska, all across Canada up to Newfoundland, and was busy exploring Mexico on his way into Central America....
He had no idea it was not just normal behavior....he didn't even have a way to make coffee...I guess he drank convenience store or restaurant coffee, etc. He was a "traveler" and I look at him with total admiration.

He worked in the IT business and only worked when he had to...I don't know the details but he pretty much lived on little and saw a lot of country...

What a blog you could do...the Crown Vic dude....
Bri
