Controller Performance in Alternator/Load Situation

I was hoping I would have the remaining 1/3, 34 volts, available for charging. On paper, that was enough for my current <20% DoD Load.

I do have the old 50 watt panel and can install that on the windshield when parked.

Hopefully the battery was already damaged when I observed the lack of charging during a day with significant driving. FWIW, it had already had some damage due a loose connection - another part of the reason why I was willing to risk additional damage.

Note the first few hours of driving only get you part way into the Absorb stage, unless going cross-country you still need 3-5 hours of shore power or solar to get the batt to true 100%.

Best when you have insufficient solar for your loads, is to do the driving or run a genny for high amps early in the morning, then use the full solar day for the long tail.
