Yes, Starlight, it's rough out their. DH and I were financially ruined by his health problems in our 40's. We went from living a nice middle class life style with money in the bank and a beautiful home to living in a 32-ft trailer and me working 2 lousy jobs while the docs got DH's issues under control.

DH's insurance company tried to screw him out of a disability pension he had paid on for over 20 years. His circumstances were exactly the same as the example in their brochure. They denied his claim eeven after their own doctors approved it, and it took over a year to get his pension. Meanwhile, I got my degree parttime and he went back to college, too. I got laid off twice in my 50's in those lovely Bush years. DH was on the verge of being laid off once. Age discrimination is alive and well in the USA.

But what allowed us to get back on our feet, what saved us from poverty, was getting those new job skills. DH could not use his old ones because of his health. I could not use mine because there was no market. Without getting marketable job skills, we'd be poor, living desperate lives from one day to the next. When life pushes you down, you can either stay down or keep getting up.

So sorry to hear of your hard times. I'm glad for you that you found your way through it... that you had emotional reserves enough to keep on fighting against the odds. Good luck to you.

And.....let's not forget that our mobility makes "cross-border" (Mexico") dental and medical care fairly convenient. BE SURE YOU HAVE A PASSPORT !!
