I was reading a thread and someone had mentioned the coleman camp oven.

It was a pretty old thread and was curious how many of you use or have used this item.

The price isn't bad if the item actually works well.

Do you use an alternative oven if not the coleman?

The dimensions are 13.5 x 12.9 x 3.3....the pictures don't seem to agree with that.  What is 3.3 inches on that thing.. the height?

edit : Ah... its collapsible..

The hard part with them is trying to keep the temperature somewhat constant. They are not insulated at all. I used to carry one and only used it once:( The constant watching and fiddling with the cooktop control was enough for me. I broke down and got a microwave/convection oven that I run off my onan. I just replaced the 700 watt microwave that was in there.

BTW, I still have that 700 watt microwave in the garage if anyone wants it, pick up here in Humble, TX and it is free. Let me know.

We used one of those Coleman camp ovens several years ago. It works but can be improved. We cut a piece of ceramic tile to fit the bottom, this evened out the heat and cooked better after that.

I used one for years. it's best to use inside because any type of air movement reeks havoc with trying to keep a stable temp. any wind above a slight breeze and forget it. I did bake in mine with very mixed results. I did use it for keeping food warm, for this it did ok.

a Dutch Oven works much better at baking and keeping food warm so I gave mine away years ago.

I would say get one. They are fun to cook with. I have one and they are fun to cook/bake with, maybe more so in the winter or cooler months because you kind of need to use it inside unless it's a dead calm day.  They actually hold the temperature pretty constant once it climbs to where it wants to equalize. It adds a little more flexibility to your cooking options. Pot pies, corn bread, (frozen;  fish patties, chicken fried steaks, TV dinners, etc. )  Just stay with it and enjoy the fun, don't leave it unattended. I know that nomads are busy, busy ,busy, with their blogs, but it's ok to sit back and have some fun baking a meal. Enjoy it if you get it, you will like it.  my2cents

After seeing videos on the Internet, I just bought an Omnia Oven. According to reviews, it is the next best thing to a homestyle RV oven. I also got the silicone inset, which helps cleanup and makes it easier to remove sticky foods.

One of the Omnia's few drawbacks, judging from reviews, is its small size. But for 1 or 2 people it will probably work. It has a circular shape with a hole in the center, kind of like a Bundt pan.

I look forward to trying it out.

""I know that nomads are busy, busy ,busy, with their blogs, but it's ok to sit back and have some fun baking a meal. Enjoy it if you get it, you will like it. my2cents "" Hey hey. We good old boy's work is never done. I can't write that in the proper accent check Guy Clark for pronunciation.

When I can have an outdoor campfire I bake in my Dutch oven. Sourdough biscuits, cakes fruit pies even box cakes can be done this way. Takes a while to get to know how to do it without burning but it’s even fun. Can’t do it in the van though. To bake well in the Dutch oven you need to have heat above and below.

How's the oven that you bought? I'm currently for a new one so I'm looking for feedback on what to consider.

I found the temp to be unpredictable for the most part. I love their 2 burner stove, but the oven has issues. I use a cast iron dutch oven with a flat top that works great. Put a metal trivet on the bottom when baking bread to keep the loaf bottom nice.
