i just happened to run across this this weekend while at dollar tree. It's a great option that doesn't require refrigerating until opening, so you can buy in bulk and just put whatever you open in the cooler.

http://www.dollartree.com/WestSoy-Organic-Low-Fat-Plain-Soymilk-Drink-32-oz-/p296076/index.pro

Thanks for the tip. At least it would be good for cooking, maybe on cereal. Canned milk (evaporated milk) works well for baking and cooking. It used to be cheap but now is over a dollar a can. I would think it would be nasty on cereal though, never tried it like that. I wonder if they have come up with powered soy milk yet? Maybe in the health food stores.
I have a limit as to how much real milk I can drink. I like to keep the canned meats on hand as well, Aldi's carries them, grocery stores do to.
I drink coconut milk. Trader Joes sells a coconut milk beverage that I buy also on the shelf for 1.99. I can not drink soy milk for some reason with out getting major heart burn.

Here is what I use especially since I have given up refrigeration on the road....it keeps really well and the only place I use milk in in cereal like morning oatmeal....

http://tinyurl.com/cvcavou

It combines well with water and honestly, in cereal I can't tell the difference....I don't drink milk so I don't drink this....I can't say it is good for drinking but i have cooked with it and it works just like milk....
Bri

wilcofan, Thanks for the heads up on the soy milk that's a great price.

bri, Just wondering are you ordering that online or can you find it locally?

Edit: I must have missed your link Bri the first time I read this. I was able to find this at a local health food store. Thanks for the suggestion.

On the Dollar Tree's soy milk: You may want to check the ingredient list and nutrition panel. The last time I checked their soy "drink" it wasn't quite soy milk, though it had some soy milk in it. Instead, it had a much lower protein and other nutrient content than actual soy milk.

But maybe they've changed that. Or maybe a person doesn't really need the nutrients from soy milk.

Its my understanding that any tetra pack container of soy milk wont start to spoil until you open it.

As a vegan I used to buy the 12 tetra pack case as I go thru lots of the stuff (currently buy the 2litre containers) and never had an issue.
