Just an idea for those 14 day stays on BLM land. Use the resources around you. Prep ahead. Collect wood before heading to a desert location, due to lack of wood.

Full size cinder block weigh 28 lbs. The 8"x8"x8" are more manageable at 19 lbs: https://www.homedepot.com/p/8-in-x-8-in-x-8-in-Gray-Concrete-Half-Block-100002885/202087224
You can get the "edge out" block at home depot also.

Be creative and experiment. Always secure your load inside any vehicle. They can become a deadly projectile, just like a battery would.

ALWAYS check for Fire Restrictions: https://firerestrictions.us/

Here's a good video on one, using 4 half cinder blocks:

did you see and read the warning. never heat concrete up. it needs to be fire brick. highdesertranger

Good concept but I would buy the chimney blocks, also called flue blocks if I were going in to the store to buy the blocks new.

Flue blocks are concrete.

Concrete heats up and spits small bits when heated.

DO NOT USE CONCRETE for a rocket stove.

Use only clay bricks, as they've already been fired to 1000-1500 degrees Fahrenheit, and can take the heat.

Yes I'm referring to the clay type, OR the heat resistant concrete type flue blocks and flue liners.. They come in a multitude of sizes and shapes....

They are MADE for chimneys.

I've made several rocket stoves from big popcorn cans. I have photos, but don't know how to post them or if I can.

I think it's a nice skill to have, making these stoves.

I also bought this Rocket Stove for $20 because it doesn't seem worth it to lug that much weight + waste of space around.  And if I had to, I can probably use this stove in the van but not the concrete version.  This stove folds neatly into a pouch and the width is almost the same width of a roll of toilet paper by Costco/Kirkland and the height is only 2/3 of same TP roll.

Wow, price just dropped to $16.11

Several makers sell steel ones, search eBay. They break down into an ammo can, can feed in bigger branches or split logs. Would keep a big chili pot going.

Rocket stoves aren't rocket science. They're just bottom-draft stoves. You can make them out of large cans.
