Try to get a true deepcell battery over a marine battery. I got 2 6v golf cart batteries at sams club, but they had the 12v kind too pretty cheap. You can get sams guest coupon online.

the 12v golf cart (155 hours) was around the same as 2 6v batteries(215 hours but have to be wired) but its like 230 either way with core charge.

i give a strong second to that. Get two 6 volt golf cart batteries from sam's club. you will have over 200 amp hours for little dollars.

Before you buy a golf cart battery, make sure you have the height needed in your battery box. We don't and I often say so. Yet the amount of folks who insist I use golf cart batteries cannot tell me if I should cut an inch off the top or bottom of the battery, nor how to do that. They just get very silent and ignore me.

Toes was asking about the best bang for the buck. Not replacing his existing battery but mounting a new, house bank battery. A marine battery is just a compromised starter battery. Not best for house battery use. The best bang for my buck is a true deep cycle battery. The cheapest easiest to find are golf cart batteries. Sam's club has a couple of choices for 6 volt GC batteries and also have 12 volt GC batteries. GC batteries are true deep cycle batteries and are better suited to long discharge cycles than marine batteries and a better value for the buck.
Yes, the battery has to fit your space, duh. I built a new battery box to maintain my battery bank. 4 six volt batteries wired to 12 volts at 450 amp hours. But that is me. To each their own.

Yeah...space is limited i bet, though they would prolly fit on passenger floor or between seats if he doesn't have a middle console..my minivan didn't.
