At the very beginning of my journey and need to purchase a vehicle so I'm open to suggestions. I have ruled out living in a car but all other suggestions are welcome. Also just in case, any other cancer survivors out there? How do you manage the whole medical care thing? You travel between appointments and come to home base for your checkups and meds or can you find care and meds on the road? Or am I just being unrealistic?

Hello,

I just had to reach out to you as I'm antsy to get this show on the road & would like help planning as well. I'm just returning to my farm in Tyner, NC from hell in a handbasket in Atlantic City, NJ which has left me w/ a flat tire (docs want to do a partial knee replacement) & whiplash (from the rat race & double takes in disbelief of how, even my favorite humans, have so quickly strayed from being on the right path) & feeling a bit bogged down & stranded out here (had to lose old demons that keep trying to hitch a ride). I've always been a happy camper, honestly, yet I have never felt so peaceful anywhere other than on this farm. I'm searching for health insurance, an orthopedic surgeon, friends that want to experience beekeeping/awesomeness of small acre medicinal farming & the proper way to compose myself in this wild dance of life. I'd love to be able to offer a place for people like u to find sanctuary on your travels. I'm off all the ridiculous meds Rx'd to me by countless Bozo's as of 3 weeks ago & playing a much more active role in my healing process. I, too, am not sure about the vehicle I want. I just donated my 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid to my Dad to mess around w/ bc the battery will likely cost $3000 to replace. I just fell in love w/ a 78 Dodge van bc it's bad to the bone & we share the same born on date. I may have to go w an Astro van tho in all practicality. More research & weird healing modalities after I have a snack & snooze. LMK what u r dreaming up. It all starts w/ a vision & sometimes we have to bounce our ideas around for to clarity to break through. Sweet dreams, my friend.

My cancer treatment involves me getting shots once every 28 days. Very expensive shots ($4,000.00) thankfully covered by Medicare. I suppose I could travel and return once a month to my current Oncologist thereby not jeapordizing my care or coverage. Oh and to Waldenbound, as a fellow breast cancer survivor, I can guarentee that you will be seeing your oncologist at a minimum of 4 times per year for the first two years, then a minimum of twice a year for an additional 3 years before getting released to yearly visits. That is of course if everything goes as hoped.

Welcome from this Tennessee Newb!

I have survived eight years of unemployment, but still have my health, sorta...
Mostly OLD, PHAT, and big bellied! I used to be Tall, Dark, and handsome... Lately, not so much!

BUT... Still I am starting on this new journey. Kinda like I'm working on my second million, cause I gave up on the first one!

Show us your ride when you get it!!!!!

LOL yeah I gave up my first million too. And I'm sure you're still tall, dark, and handsome.

I'm not dealing with cancer but I am out on disability. I have made arrangements with my doc to be able to do tele-appointments via a Facetime/Skype like medical app and get my meds either shipped or purchased locally. Blood tests etc can be done almost anywhere. My appointments won't be covered under insurance but my out of pocket would still be less than the gas to drive back here just for a 30 minute appointment twice a year.

How long do you have to have your treatments? Is this forever or is there some end in sight? Are there places that you could travel to that are not a thousand miles so you can start your journey even if the first chapter is a compromise on destinations?

I went a slightly different route than many here and am converting a shorty schoolbus. I can stand. I can take several steps. I can do basic stretches and floor exercises. I have a real bed, Seally Posturepedic mattress. I can have real workbench for leathercraft and electronics assembly and tinkering. My mielage is poor like an RV but I have a blank slate to build out what *I* want and need not some cheesy POS prefab thing. If you met me you would understand my reticence in ever trying to take a shower let alone a dump in a Winnebago.

Don't know what the shot is, but anybody can learn to self inject. Ask your Dr if the prescription can be called into Walgreens/CVS/? wherever you are, and give yourself the injection. Depends on many unknown factors but maybe??

The tele appointment is a great idea! I will be in a similar position soon (waiting for path results). Will watch this thread closely.

Best wishes!
