I'm looking into buying my first van, a Chevy:

- The 2008 V6 has 164k miles, and they're asking $7990

- The 2007 V8 has 167k miles, and they're asking $8990

Are these prices reasonable in your opinions?

The 2008 V6 has a ladder roof rack, the 2007 V8 does not.

Thanks for your help!

Do you plan to tow anything other than a maybe a small utility trailer?

No sir. I expect to be self contained within the van.

Oopsey.........   She might not care for that......

But both vans look pretty good at first online glance.  The wire racks will be easier to remove, but maybe not as easy to resell?  I don't know anything about the Chevy V6 motor, so would prefer the V8 myself.

Oops, sorry! That was rude of me :-(

Lol. No problem. If you never plan to tow (granted, it's difficult to see into the future) and your budget is tight, the 1/2 ton V6 might be alright, and you'd get better gas mileage, I think. But, the 3/4 ton V8 is going to allow you a few more options down the road. As for the price on both, here's the link they gave me when I got here, asking about pricing: Nadaguides.com

I didn't have time to research all the features your 2007 has, but here's what I got just putting in the 6L V8 engine: http://www.nadaguides.com/Cars/2007/Chevrolet/G2500-3-4-Ton-V8/Cargo-Van-135/Values

Have fun, and keep us posted!

I would much much rather have a 3/4 ton for any build out and the price really shouldn't be any higher on a 3/4 ton.

Another vote for 3/4 and the v8. Can't go wrong with things a lil' more heavy duty! I don't think real world mileage will be that different.

All things being equal I would go 3/4 as well

I figure most of today's vans and engines are good for 200,000 reasonably trouble-free miles. After that, you're going to be putting money into it pretty regularly. Soon, you'll be looking at a rebuild of engine, tranny or both. Most likely before 250,000--maybe much sooner.

How many trouble-free miles do you want to get out of your new van? I'd prefer 130,000 or less. 150,000 is absolutely top and only of it had a compelling reason.
