Last I heard Bus Grease Monkey was charging $100 an hour and paying the owner $15 an hour to help!

Our first RV was a 25 year old Barth, and the old engine was not only a money pit but just not very road worthy.

If your plan is to roam, I suggest putting your money into something newer, even if that means sitting still awhile so you can thoroughly explore options.

Where are you in Illinois?

Well, I sent Scott an email last night but so far haven't heard anything.

North Central, near Bloomington. And yeah, we're pretty much over it at this point. It's expensive, mechanics are squirrely, and our new priority is smaller, simpler and newer.

If you can give us an idea of what your looking for Katt you will have many more eyes out there.

We're going to rent a Uhaul to get ourselves to Arizona. We were looking to buy something like a used Class C here locally but every listing for an RV seems to be a scam. Inquired about a new one that popped up about 100 miles from here that looked good, and when I asked when we could look at it, the guy said "It will be in the shop getting its annual checkup until next week." LOL on an ad for a Class C he just posted two days ago. WTF? People are weird and I'm not going to chase your RV down to try to see it and buy it from you, so best o' luck, buddy!

But yeah... I guess if there's a LEGIT Class A or C for sale that will get us by for a while for sale near Bloomington, I'm interested, but I'm done trying to chase down sellers who don't really want to sell. We're leaving the area next Wednesday one way or the other.

Sounds to me like your gut instincts are guiding you well, and once you’re in AZ and not under pressure you’ll be able to look around for something that suits you.

Always good to make a purchase like this when you are not under time-constraints and pressure

Bullfrog already mentioned this guy. Couldn't hurt a bit to give him a shout.

Here's a link to the Bus Grease Monkey's website.

I've watched a few of his videos and have seen him bring back vintage buses from the grave

I've reached out to him via email and comments on his YT channel and heard nothing. The bus will be scrapped. It is what it is and not much I can do.

I certainly couldn't have made too many worse decisions, haha.

Sure you can! I'm living proof! I bought an old school bus that nearly killed me getting it home when it lost the brakes going down a mountain bringing it home. I had to put it in a ditch and let the side drag to get it stopped as well as use the rear emergency door to get out, it did make it easy to figure out which windows to remove for the build! LOL!!!

They are called adventures. No fun while living them though. You will get through this

Think of the adventure before today as over. Maybe in a year or so, you can look back and laugh. If you're really lucky, your new digs will make you glad it happened when it did.

Starting today, you're on a new adventure... So many choices ahead of you -- including a new home on wheels!

I'm rooting for you, as I'm positive everyone following your story is.

Wow! Glad you made it through that safely. I also had some issues with our air brakes freezing up when it got below freezing and had to manually purge the air system several times. Scary stuff.

I've actually been through worse things and we could be a lot worse off, so yep! :)

Thank you! We're already sort of laughing about it. And as stressed as I was the whole trip up until we broke down, I actually handed it quite gracefully. I knew what was happening as it happened, and as I pulled off to the side of the road I just said, "This is it!" and accepted it. I cried when we had to cram our kitties into carriers though, because we never crate them, not even for travel and I know they hate it. That was honestly the worst part of it.

I guess I won't be watching more of his videos. Sorry, he seems like an honest enough guy when the camera's rollin'
