Hey man; they don't write em like that any more.
I was in long ago-Army-Eighty deuce.
Trained with the M-14 (that's how long it's been).
What I really want to say is;

Thank-You.

Whenever you want to come is fine, offer is permanent, even if no one shows up it doesn't really matter. I planned it more for me as a base camp where I can run off into the woods from and come back to civilization when I want. Level of response (how many actually come) will determine how many improvements I make to the site. Didn't really buy the place to do this, just thought after Honeys' death that it might be a good way to honor her and keep her memory alive besides just in my head.

I trained with the m-16 myself. I joined what was called 64c, or 64 clutch as we called it (truck driver). It was redesignated 88m in the late 80s or so, about the time I switched to 13B cannon cocker anyways.

Lol, thanks for the post. We call it imperial entanglements. Will pass this onto my husband. Generous offer and we may be that way soon. Be well and take care.

Scan, Does Verizon have service in your area?

Sorry for the typo Scar. I think you are a Vet and so am I.

I believe we have Verizon in the area, I think it is what I used before I switched to Straight Talk (Wal-mart brand). There are cell towers in town, and most of the major companies operate them on the desert nearby since Arco is 12 miles from the INL (Idaho National Labs) birth place of nuclear power in the U.S. and used for high tech research for the last 50+ years. So don't quote me, but I believe the answer is yes.
Also, had a pair of visitors today who had found my website through a search engine or some such, and I told them about this site. They also proved that using my website it is pretty easy to find my place.
They didn't have a camper with them, just had read about me/my site and stopped to shoot the shit. Nice people, nice enough to make the place a success in my book even now. Again, if interest picks up and/or get more visitors who camp, I will install services this summer some time. Maybe a manual fresh water well. I don't plan on every doing septic, and with the dump station 300' from the place, I don't think its enough of an issue to matter.
So get my info off this site, or more about me / Honeys Park off our web site. I look forward to meeting anyone. Peace out >.<

If you still have to have power, I'll let you park close to me for a while.

Sort of funny and cool but I spotted someone hiding trying to sleep behind the church next to my free camping park the other night. It was a bicyclist going from Oregon to Philadelphia. Talking to him I learned they use a network called 'warmshowers' to list places and people who will let you stay with them. I listed Honeys Park that night, and since then have had 3 campers in 2 days. Funny since I told the RV community about this last year and have had no one actually show up. Had one group that called and said they might use me if their campground fell thru but never came or called after that. So anyway my point: This warm showers thing might be good for research for all cross country campers to take note, and it has made my little park pick up with campers every night since I listed it. Just a lil fyi for those of you out there looking for a place to stay, warmshowers lists places like mine with maps and contact info for all states and even foreign countries. Good source of info if nothing else.

hi scar thanks for the tip about warm showers. I will get up to your place one day. highdesertranger

Hello Scar,

Thank You for Your Service and Thank You for Welcoming all of us to Honey's Park.

I'm a fellow disabled Vet down in FL. - I don't know if I'll ever make it up your way, Scar - if I could, I'd head that way - I just can't, not anytime soon anyway (van issues among other things)..... But, I want you to know that I truly appreciate your offer, it really is very generous - Thank You Again!

PS - I had a buddy in the military nic-named Scar, (short for his last name, Scarletto (spelling?)), he was from NY (Buffalo I believe)....

.

Ok, have greatly modified my website, including on site weather forecasts etc. Will offer vehicle support at the cost to you of gas only. Will give the shirt off my back if your nice or a naked chick. (hehe) Getting tons of campers from the cycling community of warmshowers and have made a camper of mine available for anyone's use, has power and lights. Also purchasing an outdoor grill to help anyone who stays with a public place to cook besides a fire pit in the ground. For lack of activity from the RV community, but lots from the cycling community have pretty much decided to cancel my plans for electrical stations around my field. If you need power, park close to me. Have cleaned up 90% of the property save for a couple old telephone poles and a pile of chain link near the entrance that were dumped here before I bought the place, and I will hire a tractor/dump truck to haul that off this summer. If you need a place to shower and don't want to spend $5 at the truck stop I can warm some water for you to use. Have had several sets of cyclists stay with me now, fun to bullshit with and fight boredom. I also figure that free beer does not count as breaking your diet, right? Well, hope to see some of you guys soon. Updated most my posts here for all this. Thanks, Scar

Hi Scar

Wow.......sounds like you've been busy! I thinks it's great how open you are to have people come up to stay/visit. I am currently planning to leave Colorado in Dec. to move out west somewhere to get a "fresh" change in my life....time for somethin' new. I will try to work in plans to visit you as i am going to travel to Quartzsite in January to look for work , possibly as a camp host or whatever. I am curious if there are any types of seasonal, temp work out your way as this might be an option for me as well. I am in the final stages of finishing my "home" and should be fully self contained, using mostly solar energy for electricity and hot water, cooling. It's an experiment of sorts in "green" rving/living. I may come out your way sooner if I meet my money saving deadline/goal earlier and then could leave my "crappy" job that I have currently!
                                                                                                        Best Regards,
                                                                                                              Randy

Not much work in my particular town, seasonal or other. And seasonal is fall harvest or getting a job working at yellowstone really. But even yellowstone is 100 miles from me. Welcome to stay, but can't help you much work wise. Emailed you back from my gmail account. December is a cold time to visit Idaho, just warning. January is worse, but temps not unheard of in the -20 range in late december. Saw many -25 days in january and the record for my town is -45. Electricity for heat is available if you park close to me or if I know your going to stay long enough for me to install a station. Hope to hear from you again. The supposed average temps for December are 32 for a high and 16 for a low, but most years we would kill for 'average' days. Not trying to scare you off, just warn you. I updated my website with a temperature list for historically average temperatures, quite interesting really. Turns out that on average and on record December is our coldest month. Hope that doesn't scare you, but would totally understand wanting to visit in the warm months. A lot of people don't realize Idaho is in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, and Arco officially sits at 5,325 feet elevation. It is on the edge of our central plains for Idaho, but all neighboring communities are surrounded by mountains so we get less snow than they do, but much worse winds. Either way, info is yours, invite is open, love to see you if you come.

@LivingFree; you know as I thought about it, your seasonal work thing I remembered something a friend of mine used to do. About 100 miles from me anyways, he would work for a private company that uses camp hosts and such to run the Inns, restaurants and such in Yellowstone. There were times where you are stuck there, save for getting a ride on a snow cat to the parks edge or nearby towns but I know they do seasonal. Hadn't thought about that in a while.

@Ziggy moon: Never met a scarletto, there is a local family in Arco with the last name Scarr (originally english: Scarborough).

@Van Girl: Awesome, sorry if I don't always remember to direct my responses. I generally read what everyone has to say but when I go to post a new item I respond, but forget to point out directed comments lol. So hope I haven't accidentally made anyone think I wasn't listening.

Hey Scar , you're doing a good thing and paying it forward , don't give up because of the city slickers and airheads.

If I ever get over thataway I'll bring some steaks by and say howdy , we can talk dogs , rifles and the sociopolitical state of the world..........

Sort of humorous, sort of sad but: I spotted a couple at the back of the truck stop, obviously poor and in a very poor conditioned early 70s RV. They had their generator out in the parking lot and were obviously making an evening out of it. I was at the RV dump 100' away getting fresh water to fill my dogs kiddie pool and thought I'd invite them over, told them about my place and told them they could have free electricity that night and not have to run their generator. During the convo I mentioned I had to run get some laundry out of the dryer at the laundromat but would be back in about 10 minutes and show them over and help them hook up, figuring that would also give them time to pack up their gen etc. Anyways, now the funny (to me anyways). When I came back 10 mins later they had fled the truck stop, no clue where they went. Not sure if some people just can't accept that someone might be nice to them, or if they thought I was some sort of free RV camping molester trying to seduce them to my place (sarcasm).
So, even when I offer to pay for peoples electricity, no one will stay with me in an RV lol.

Ironic that I also had picked up a six pack too offer them a cold one if they came over. Oh well, drink alone rofl.

Hey Scar ,

That's where are world is headed....everybody's afraid of interaction with strangers and even their own shadows. It's kinda sad though......There was probably more to what they were thinkin'........Don't stop being who you are, some people just aren't very receptive to kindness.....THERE LOSS...............I still plan on coming your way.

                                                                                                               Randy

Yeah I get it, kinda saw it coming too. Just needed a place to vent or someone to hear my cry rofl. Appreciated your response. Partly really did make me laugh, but sad they didn't accept my friendship.

Scar,
It might have been misplaced pride, not fear that motivated their skedaddle. I try to help others when I can, and some appreciate it and some resent it.

Not a reflection on you, but on them. A wise bit of advice from God, "DO unto others as you would have them do for you". is still a good idea.

Bob

Two nice people spending the night tonight from Slovakia. I think they are more from warmshowers website. Place is looking kind of overgrown out there right now, I need to buy a weed whacker at least to keep it up a little bit more, but I've been lazy lately rofl.
