Added an independent 100 amp hour battery and portable 100w solar panel to the van.  Brings it to a total of 300 ah batteries and 300 watt solar panels.  Didn't really need it but nice to have a back up and something to share the load.

The solar panel comes with it's own solar charger and the battery box is a Minn Kota power station with 2 fused 12 volt plugins.  It fits neatly behind the drivers seat.  The solar panel fits in the back with the other.

And found a great free campsite, thanks to freecampsites website, right on the shore of a glacier lake.  Temp last night was 39*. :)

Haven't been able to use much solar up here in Alaska; very cloudy. It has enabled me to see how much generator time I need for my powere usage though. I use a Vmax Tanks 7 stage smart charger. I recharge every other day, batteries showing 12.5, and it takes 3 hours generator time for them to recharge fully. The Honda EU2000i has an .8 gallon tank and will run 14 hrs on that. Sooo... 8/10ths of a gallon of gas recharges my batteries for a week. Not a bad electric bill. Life is good.

Interesting on the lack of solar. Presently with 320 W solar,200 AH battery, Can charge house and starter batteries using Smart Dual Battery 140A Isolator (VSR Voltage Sensitive Relay) for Auto/Boat/RV whilst driving. A by product of the VSR was that my starter battery will charge from my solar (whilst sunny) the VSR will deactivate and isolate the starter battery when 12.9 volts or lower occurs. But your situation has me wandering if I need a generator ?? Mmmmm

MM

I find a generator handy when I'm in forested terrain or rainy climates and not driving for days at a time. Don't get me wrong, I love my solar when I'm in locations that it can be used and it's my preference.

Great day today.  Started out with breakfast at the Noisey Goose with longtime friend, Roger and my son Bob.  Then went out and spent a few hours getting a tour of Roger's weekend getaway on Horseshoe Lake.  Life is good.
