I’m glad he said what needed to be said. If you haven’t watched it, please do.  You have to plan folks, you just have to. The odds are against you if you just jump in a van and go without adjusting your spending habits. Unless you are already rich,

I guess it comes down to freedom versus comfort. Each individual will have to decide how much comfort they are willing to exchange for freedom.

If you were able to afford living in a S&B before, and

**continue** to have that same income level,

so what you save on rent can be used for the **greater** expenses incurred by dwelling,

you will likely be fine.

But of course getting the vehicle, buildout, systems in place to live reasonably comfortably off grid, will take investing a fair bit of **capital** before you can take the jump.

This is why he was advocating using the vehicle you already have and adjusting your comfort level.

This lifestyle is not a panacea for your troubles.

More than money in the video.  The idea that you can’t run from your problems is pretty important also.  “Where ever you go, there you are.”

One thing I have not seen is a question I think is really important for people considering this lifestyle. HAVE YOU BEEN CAMPING BEFORE? Did you like it? Was it for more than a weekend? I can tell you that you really don't get the real feel of it until you have been out for over a week and the "fun" wears off. That's when the annoying things about the lifestyle start getting to you.

It was the first question I use to ask on the RV forums when people were thinking about spending a buttload of money on a trailer/fifth wheel a truck to pull it or a motorhome. What's amazing is how many buy them just to let them sit in storage and rot because camping wasn't as fun as they envisioned.

So before you sell off everything and move into the space of a walk in closet forever, ask yourself if you really like camping. This goes for those in tents, cars, vans and RV's. It's a major change in lifestyle even if you can afford it.

I guess that is why you can find 20 year old rv's with 15,000 miles on them. That one had been a head scratcher to me previously.

I really like it. And my closet is ten yards to ten miles of woods. My perspective is open. lol.

Average of 750 miles per year. Annual two week vacation about 350 miles from home. Reasonable usage.
