I will be traveling alone in my 21' Class C and I'm in the process of figuring out how to pack.  One big empty space is the front seat and I would love opinions on how best to use it.  I've thought about removing it entirely and putting the cat box there but I'd have to create some custom cover box that would allow the felines to sit on top and look out the windows when parked, or serve as my 'driving supply' area while on the move.

The cat box can be crammed in the foot area with the seat in place but it's an awkward position and I'm doubtful that my 18 pound big guy would be able to fit comfortably.  If the cat box doesn't go in the front, under the dinette is the only other logical choice that would give the big cat enough room but then it's awkward to clean.

Has anyone come up with a good solution for using the empty front seat to the best advantage?

The BEST solution is one that serves YOUR needs. What do you want to be able to do that you can't do now? The litter box thing? Something else?

I have 2 cats and a large covered litter box but I have it behind the drivers seat (between the drivers seat and dinette) because my cat won't stay away from the gas peddle. I also have a curtain hanging between the front and back for that reason.

Unfortunately my floor plan doesn't allow that.  The dinette is flat against the driver's seat back.

My choices are:  bathtub ( a little small and also my clothes are hanging there.  Stuff stacked in tub could be moved anywhere).  Under the dinette (out of the way but a pain to clean.  Could put a board over the top and gain a little storage).  Front seat (floor space is a tight fit but could remove the seat or put something on the floor and use a board over the 'something' and the seat to create a higher space).

Put the litter box there, then put your snack tray on top of that. Pay attention when using... :p

When I had a cat I learned this trick. If they go by your feet, turn the heater on high. It won't take long before they remember that is not a comfortable place. They will not associate you with the discomfort, it is just too darned hot there, and they will prefer not to go there.

Guy

Good answer, thanks.

I know a lot of people turn their passenger seat around or re-purpose that space but doing so is essentially saying "I'm never going to have company." I know I use my passenger seat frequently as a passenger seat. But as was said, it's best used however it is best used for you...

Seems like there should be a better place for a cat box though. A cat box is only 6" high, it doesn't need 40" of vertical real estate devoted to it.

I'd think about taking the seat out and building in shelves with 2x2 legs. Leave the bottom as open or closed or as tall as will make your cat love using it. Then put shelves in above it, making the top a pleasant place for him to ride. Pretty basic carpentry.

I have a plastic storage bin with a flat top that I cut a hole in the end.  The cat loves it, and I can stick things around and over it.  I get the TIDY CAT in the plastic tubs, so those have become storage units after they are empty.  At the last RTR Bob got about 6 of them to use in his rig.  The box gets scooped twice a day, and there is seldom any odor.   :D

You could make a cabinet with shelves out of plywood, cover it in carpeting and make a cat condo on the top. My cat used to love a hammock that I put near a window for him. leave the top of the cabinet off, then fasten on some sagging cloth material.

I set up the front seat so it could swivel.  Tigger loves hanging out there.
