Hi;

I just bought the best grill in the world for outbound use...or on your deck!! The company is here in the US, of course has some stuff made in China, they want to give you good value. They littered the south with these units after Katarina and put them all over the world in disaster zones.

I talked to several people at this company before I bought and they were awesome...engineering types taking a great idea that can be low tech enough to work in the disaster situation for survival but with the trick outs I can bake bread and make a pot of stew with only 12 charcoal briquettes...for both! And, it burns wood...and, it has a propane burner option. Tri-fuel!!

I am an absolute gear junkie (I often say gear whore but it hasn't actually come to that - yet! *smile*) but I don't have time in my world for crap and I can not afford to waste money. This is good value for my bucks...if it could make and serve the food not just cook it I'd be thinking marriage because its a love thing...

Even if you don't need/want a grill, this is a great gear read. Go to the FAQs...some of the answers are so straight forward its funny. In particular the one about how much weight it can hold...I know how they know the answer to the don't ask how we know question *laugh*!

I don't work for them or get paid but if you do buy mention me, they are good people and I couldn't get ALL the options...

This east-coaster is heading for bed. And leaving for Mexico tomorrow! Yippee! See you all in a week...quickie trip!

ETA - Oh, Amazon has this and it seems a, very slightly, better deal but the company has made improvements and Amazon couldn't tell me the age of the stock...also reasearch junkie! Bless the internet, at least now you don't have to bribe someone to get a company directory...

I saw a couple videos from their website. Looks really cool. Question, do you know if the grill will accept the small 1 pound propane cannisters? The video showed the use of the large 20 pound cannister. I only use the small cans.

You guys crack me up! I have been known on rare occasions (called holidays) to throw some chicken wings and pork sausages onto a barbeque grill. Yes, I do own appliances. No, I don't cook...or at least hardly at all, haha!

OK, in honor of both the best grill in the world (I dunno, hc, the anti- zombie ammo can grill is still on the projects list) and caseyc's sense of humor :D, I will share my super secret, KISS simple BBQ marinade recipe. Use on roasts, steaks, even tough cuts like london broil, or chicken. Small amounts can also be mixed with ground beef for burgers, but don't do it ahead of time due to the high acid/ meat tenderizing aspect.

Ingredients
3 cups Pace, or favored brand, picante sauce (choose your preferred heat level)
1/2 cup Worcestershire Sauce
1 tbsp crushed garlic
1 tbsp onion powder
dashes of chili powder, black pepper, cayenne and sea salt to taste

Method
Mix all ingredients thoroughly and pour into a ziplock bag. Add meat, burp air from bag and massage to coat. Refrigerate/ cooler for 8-24 hours, depending on the toughness of the meat (the tougher the meat, the longer you leave it before grilling). For chicken, marinate 1-4 hours.

BBQ as usual.

*Note- If your neighbors 2 sites away can smell the marinade before the meat even hits the grill, you got it right. If you have to beat them off with a stick once the meat is ON the grill, you REALLY got it right :D

@ caseyc...Yup, have to get a small adapter they sell...it was under $20. I also only carry the 1 pounders.

@ unchained...you bring the marinade, I'll bring the grill!

Hippiechk,

Thanks for the info. Can you tell me the diameter of the grill (the width in inches across left to right)?
Also the height of the grill? Does it come with a carry case? Or is that an optional cost?

I literally have no more room to store things, but I'm always interested in a good portable BBQ grill for those rare summer holidays that I'm in the mood to cook (read: can't find another party to crash, hence I must cook myself!).

I recently replaced a larger Coleman BBQ grill for a smaller one. I'm interested in compact grills.

Thanks!
Casey

By the way, for everyone's information, the number one thing I cook the most is........

wait for it........

It it........

WATER! I cook water for making tea and coffee!

This is the device I use for cooking hot water. I like this butane powered stove better than my propane powered stove cuz this sucker is very convenient to use with its built-in lighter starter and the compact butane can is enclosed inside its own compartment lid. Plus it shoots out 15,000 BTUs for a hot flame.

Alas, it can't simulate barbeque style cooking though. :-(

@ caseyc;

Yes it compacts...5" high X 15" diameter, I MADE room for it *smile*. The actual cooking surface grill is 144 sq"...round so a bit over a foot. Very strong carry bag included, about 18ish" high set up and get this...its convection principle, hence the name volcano, pushes the heat up and you can fire this pup up on a PLASTIC table.

I also make a mean pot of hot water my friend...and the same way! I bought a cheaper and less btu version of the butane stove (World Famous - under $30, only 8,000 btu, plenty for my solo needs) but its otherwise identical. Can go from driving to cooking in under a minute and 30 seconds of that is loosening the ratchet strap to open the drawer!

I'm off for a week of adventure but I'll be back~~~

Ya.. and here we got a week of solid rain; hate the 'wet coast'. Gonna be headed off to the Okanagan in a bit: colder, but MUCH drier. ..Willy.

Thanks for the info!! BTW: Have you tried cooking with it yet? Is it really easy to clean? My biggest pet peeve is trying to clean up the burnt grease at the bottom.

My last Coleman BBQ grill was next to impossible to clean off the blackened grease that became permanent.
That's why I try to always line the bottom with foil paper for easier cleaning and to help prevent the burnt grease residue.

Hi all,

Well this is a bit late in coming but I wanted to update about this grill.

Its still a love thing!

I never did get around to using the propane YET but this thing is fabulous with charcoal and with wood. The upward volcano action is really effective. Its very easy to clean, just a brush out and it seemed to burn up any grease although I confess I didn't cook anything actually greasy laden...it did practically sacrifice some steaks when I wasn't keeping a sharp eye!

Bonus points...it survived getting tossed by an EMT when he was moving it to get to me! Score...10 big gold stars for the volunteer EMT - 10 regular yippee points for the grill.

Hugs,

I'm curious. Is it easy to clean off grease from grilling sausages and chicken wings? Or does the grease get blackened and stuck to the metal?

checked it out, looks neat, like the collapsibility of it and the dutch oven set up looks like it would do well too... I dunno though, I'm not ready to give up my biolite... I love cooking a steak, with potatos and onions, and corn with a few of handfulls of twigs and charging my cell phone at the same time... I also did 2 inc thick rib eyes on it and a whole tri-tip roast (to me thats f-ing amazing for something the size of large can of beans). I'm even considering building a vent with fan set up big enough for me to use it IN my van. If I should decide I just cant live without a dutch oven though... I'll consider it again...

I'm partial to older military surplus, alot of it is small and portable and usually made of good materials , like this GI stove for instance.

I like how it folds up and store in the pan that you can use to boil water or cook in
