I have lived all of my life dreaming of doing something like this, camping when I could. All my kids are grown but the last one who is 15. I have made the decision to go ahead and purchase the van and work on it taking camping trips until he moves out. His plans are by 17! Lol. Whether 17 or 18 he will leave I have no doubt for he is independent. Then I'm hitting the road full time. It's my time for me. I will take all the help I can get from y'all because other than the videos Bob puts up, I know nothing. I've worked a job with no pension so it will be savings only to fund me. Full speed ahead!!!

Hi Dreamer! Great that you have some time to plan and save. It happens in the blink of an eye: one minute they are begging us for rides, the next they are out the door and the nest is empty. Having a plan will ease that transition. Enjoy your life!

Hi Dreamer, welcome to the forums! It is good to have a plan for when the youngest leaves the nest. I too dreamed and planned for that day.

Leave as soon as he moves out, before he boomerangs home!

Between my four sons, there have been thirteen returns. I had to sell the house to get the two youngest boys (26 and 32) out on their own again. When they complain about the cost and hassle of living on their own, I have offered to house them in a tent. Sticks and bricks is still preferable.

But really, they just miss Mumsy's cooking.

I can't say how much I enjoyed my empty nest-while it's lasted. Things are more difficult these days aand I was always there to provide a soft landing. But it's my turn now.

Thank you all for the words of encouragement! I understand about the kiddos boomeranging back. I had one do that. He finally left at 25. I'm excited to get started on my new journey!

HI
sounds like a great plan and you will be living your dream of no tie down and letting yourself camp and wander! good deal
Good thing is you are camping as much as you can now while he is still home and young...take advantage of just researching and building your van to suit your lifestyle. Sounds like a great adventure coming your way!
