Hey, this is my 1st post to the forum. So, I finally have a bed platform in my Ford Transit. Any recommendations for a mattress?

Thank you for the offer, I'm in Nevada and was hoping to get ideas, places or certain brand of mattress for my bed.

Do you use it with a topper of any kind or is the mattress okay by itself? Which density did you order?

We phoned....the boss talks you thru the order.......What do you have now....whats wrong....How big people (I'm a big guy)........Side sleepers ?..............He designs it right there on the phone


We bought a (short 76"x54") FULL mattress about 5" of firm 2.0 density with 2" plush topper for comfort..........We sleep on our sides and need to SIT in one spot on the edge of the bed........all sewn beautifully

Two years later the mattress is still in good condition........the earlier Memory foam mattresses failed in 6 months

To ship it they put it in a plastic bag and squeeze all the air out rolling it into a tube shape............Ships FedEx......14" diameter by 54" ( full width) long

Thanks. Sounds good. I'm at 240 and a side sleeper so I guess I need similar.

HDR usually only bought quality stuff. He was a quality guy,too.

Such a personal preference…. Well, if you can tolerate a firm IKEA foam mattress, I suggest one of theirs. I have a Meistervik full. It’s just firm foam—no memory foam—and at 4.75” thick, it’s not for everyone. But, it’s enough for me; my back feels great! It costs $159, so it’s not expensive. The benefits of buying a mattress at IKEA are cost, availability and selection. And, you can try them out at IKEA just like you can at any mattress store. It just may take you a day or two, trudging through countless corridors and aisles to find the mattress department. LOL

Well, if you can tolerate a firm IKEA foam mattress, I suggest one of theirs. I have a Meistervik full.

For vans many of us require narrower widths so vendors selling the standard sizes won't work. My gaucho-type bed platform is just 32" wide. I have tried using the Ikea slats under a firm foam mattress before but they didn't help much with such a narrow width.

I bought a “carpet kit” and a canopy for my new ‘87 Ford Ranger. I don’t think they sell carpet kits anymore. I thought it was so cool! It was two long boxes, running lengthwise along each side of the truck bed, covering the wheel wells, with two doors on top of each box creating compartments to access space on each side of the wheel well. Between the boxes there were two plywood sections to bridge the gap between the boxes. Each box had a ledge which the plywood set on. Or, the plywood could be slid in at truck bed level to make a large storage area. The smaller of the plywood section could be slid in at an angle to make a small storage space behind the tailgate for groceries and such. But, the best feature was the thick carpet and foam. The plywood pieces and the compartment doors had 3/4” dense foam beneath thick carpet. The boxes were just covered in carpet.
I went on a 800 mile trip with a girlfriend in that truck. We camped 5 nights. Now, I’m not going to say it was a comfortable bed. But, for 5 days it was doable for our 30-something bodies. We did another shorter trip, so if I was uncomfortable, I don’t remember. I just remember some good times.
At my age, I don’t think I could handle 3/4” foam for very many nights. Maybe two. It would be like backpacking, something that will end and then you go back to your normal life. Nowadays, people buy folding rooftop tents with 3 or 4 inch foam beds for $2000, if they want to go car camping.
Yes, I’m way off-topic. But, it made me think, “How thick does the foam have to be?”

I just had a 30 x 72 mattress made... it's 9" thick with the top two inches a quilted cotton topper.

I've never had a mattress this comfortable in my 70-years.

just an idea-look on Craigslist. Most times people are giving away mattresses that way you can pick and choose and you aren't out any money.
