I was just curious if someone 6ft tall could have the bed in the rear running side to side with your head on either side or would I need a bed running front to back along one of the sides.

I've seen some specs saying some vans are 75 inches (6'3") wide but I'm not sure how realistic that is.

6'3" space isn't really enough for a 6' tall person to sleep comfortably anyway. You'll want more than an inch and a half at each end just for comfort's sake.

I'd go longways.

Or ... you could have a wider bed along the back and sleep at an angle. A 3' x 6' bed would give just over 6'8" at an angle.

Suanne ... who sometimes finds practical uses for the pythagorean theorem

You also have to account for insulation so you cant go beyond the ribs, which shaves off a few inches either side. While going diagonal is possible, if you plan to live in there you might want to go for comfort. Im 6'4, and I plan to have a nice long bed along the side of mine

Thinking about how I actually sleep, I don't really stretch out to my full height (6' 0"). I get in a semi-fetal position. But I roll from side to side in the course of the night. So a wide bed is important to me. I tried to sleep in a twin bed when visiting relatives. Too narrow. But a standard/full/double bed is fine for me.

A full size bed is 6' 3" long and 4' 6" wide. So I can sleep happily on one that's a little shorter. Curled up, diagonal, whichever. A foam supplier can cut a nice 8-inch medium-firm slab to size, with a softer 4-inch topper. An upholstery shop can cover them. Then standard sheets will fit with the extra length tucked under.

If you're the type who uses a sleeping bag, you could forget about sheets fitting and make a bed some other shape than a rectangle, like wider at the shoulder end and narrower at the feet.

Oh, and depending on how you lay things out, you could put a standard bed lengthwise, of course.

My layout is 4 captains chairs and a 6ft bed lengthwise behind that. It ends up being the perfect length to fit in a non-extended Ford. My mattress is a queen size that I'm going to cut down to 72" long (6ft exactly) while keeping the 60" width for super comfy angled lounging.

im 6' and i had to put mine longwise behind the drivers seat. plus, without a side door, tge single back door is my only other way out besides the cab doors and i didnt want to block it.

I'm planing to build my bed more like a couch long ways. In this economy I got pretty used to sleeping on couches and I could use it to sit while I do stuff on work cooking space I plan on having on the other side of the van.
