Thinking about how I actually sleep, I don't really stretch out to my full height (6' 0"). I get in a semi-fetal position. But I roll from side to side in the course of the night. So a wide bed is important to me. I tried to sleep in a twin bed when visiting relatives. Too narrow. But a standard/full/double bed is fine for me.

A full size bed is 6' 3" long and 4' 6" wide. So I can sleep happily on one that's a little shorter. Curled up, diagonal, whichever. A foam supplier can cut a nice 8-inch medium-firm slab to size, with a softer 4-inch topper. An upholstery shop can cover them. Then standard sheets will fit with the extra length tucked under.

If you're the type who uses a sleeping bag, you could forget about sheets fitting and make a bed some other shape than a rectangle, like wider at the shoulder end and narrower at the feet.

Oh, and depending on how you lay things out, you could put a standard bed lengthwise, of course.
