Arizona Recreational Land?

I've read one or more threads on here about Arizona land called recreational, where you buy it for cheap and you can camp on it. I was poking around online last night, and I found several real estate companies (some realtors, some land companies) that sell such land and claim you can use it for "recreational" purposes. None of them bothered to give a clue about how many days a year you could recreate!

Anyone know of places where you actually CAN hang out on the land you buy? That is, where the county agrees with the sales pitch terms? All thoughts welcome. I would always check with the county anywhere, of course, but thinking maybe some of you have had good experiences with this sort of land in specific counties.

I had the filters on this set for max $20,000 and 10 acres.

a particular piece of land, price is misleading on the form, it's a total of just under $2k for 1.25 acres

We are currently in SW New Mexico, will be meandering back to home in Colorado pretty soon and probably through AZ, could go to some areas if we got curious enough. I haven't come across this category of property in NM, but we did once own such a piece of land when we lived in Washington state. Considering selling our house in CO and becoming sort-of fulltimers or maybe moving to NM or AZ...
 
It's been 6 months or so, but when I checked reviews last, this site had decent reviews. Lots of things to consider with any land, you got checking with county rules, also back taxes, access, and zoning. More than that I'm sure, having a brain drain day.

I purchased my parcel 10 acres in Apache county on Landwatch.com
there is plenty of land out there for sale 
I turned down one parcel because of flood problems during 
monsoon season Google earth is your friend here 
also in Arizona I found the exact co ordinates of the property 
on the County GIS site from the parcel number 
property tax is low but of course depends on if you have any utilities 
it s a great state for solar power 
I am moving down there next month .
 
I'm kinda curious about that also. Lots of places will sell you the land but NOT tell you of the zoning restrictions...such as : you can only camp/park an RV for 90 days/year etc.
        I was wondering about buying land adjacent to BLM land and then just jump back and forth every month or 2. Would that be feasible ?

Check out the current regulations but there is/was a provision that would allow you to opt out of the zoning regulations. You would need to own at least four acres that were all connected and then you could do as you pleased as long as you didn't cause pollution or trouble for your neighbors like sending flood water onto their property

I have been following the plans for the area and already there  is strong opposition and a rethink on the table 
will be interesting as it will be the usualfight between $ and community .
 
Fracking is very, very water intensive, I'm surprised their is enough water there for them to even consider it.

Haha they are trucking it in from Cali! Haha.

Jeeze I was just joking... I hope they really are not trucking it in from Kali!!!
 
We're camped near Show Low today, just got here a little while ago, will continue on tomorrow, looking at places with lower elevation. Nothing in Show Low spoke to us when we drove through. If we learn anything, will post!

Too bad, Roy, our other plans don't fit with going that way.

BTW, Turns out Snowflake is named partly for my grandfather's grandfather, a Mormon pioneer named Erastus Snow. My granddad left the church so I'm not connected with it in any way.
 
Update: We entered AZ coming up Hwy 180 from Silver City, camped overnight in the Gila Natl Foregst, a nice enough free roadside campground near Glenwood, NM. In NM and around Alpine, the results of a huge forest fire were evident, went on for miles. By the time we had lunch in Springerville, we were past that. Driving west to Show Low, it was rolling hills with lots of junipers among the grasslands. At Show Low we spent one night at a state park campground, Fools Hollow or something like that. No hookups was about $17.

The next day we went north to Snowflake, similar terrain. Kinda thought of taking a back road east to Concho but nothing in the area spoke to us, so we went on to the Petrified Forest National Monument, loved it, and went on to Chinle, where we are now staying in a Navajo campground and having a great time at Canyon de Chelly. Will go back to NM tomorrow, the Farmington area.

I think one reason that we didn't feel a connection with the area is that it is all pretty actively LDS (Mormon) and both my husband and I are from families that left that church... his parents, my grandparents.

So I can't really contribute much to the discussion of that as a possible region to buy land in. We wouldn't!
