In the Army they used to say that's good training and it builds character - especially when you were cold, wet, sore and tired, and hadn't eaten or slept in a couple days. I told them I think I have enough character now, thank you.
They either weren't listening or didn't care. I think both, actually. I don't think they knew I was having an adventure, or I doubt they would have paid me.
I took my share of motorcycle trips too - back in the 70's when it was an adventure just to keep them from breaking down. You learn how to pack light, with a tent, 2 sleeping bags, a couple changes of clothes for 2, tools, stove, food, fuel, chain lube, toiletries, etc. all packed in a compression duffel bag and a couple saddlebags. Now that's what I call "Grand Adventure."
