I am thinking of creating one but I'd like to hear and see others who have done it. I think I will just start with a carboard box and tinfoil until I get some progress, then convert it to a proper insulated box.

Thoughts?

Diagrams?

Images?

Here's some pics of different designs. Prolly simple for you to figure out each one.

Last one I made was a posterboard cone lined with an emergency space blanket. The cooker was a glass jar painted black outside. It sat just inside the cone and made a crockpot style dinner for 2 in around 5 hours of winter sun.

Some oven designs can reach about 400F and use a slide vent to regulate the heat. Some fold/disassemble for storage.

I love solar ovens, but I took the lazy way and just bought a GSO (Global Sun Oven). There is a solar cooking group on Yahoo and they are active and extremely helpful. There photos albums are plum full with every imaginable design of homemade solar oven so I highly recommend them to you!

When you are working on it post your build and questions to them and you will get lots of great help!

And be sure to post it here too!!

I am just putting the finishing touches on a solar dehydrator, an oven might have to be my next project if this one works.

I'd be really interested in seeing some pics of that.

we (my wife & I ) do alot of dehydrating, as we dry out apple slices, blueberries, pears, and lots of cherry tomotoes. (AWESOME on pizza and salad!)

just got it running yesterday, late afternoon, first batch is in, a few plumbs a couple of bananas and we made up some fruit leather to test it out. I haven't found\made all the trays yet so still unfinished, but otherwise complete. I will post a photo when I get one, don't mean to hijack this thread but it is sorta along the same lines. We set a thermometer in it, in a very short time, we were up to 110 F and rising before thermometer crapped out, I understand it has to be between 110 and 140 for ideal drying so it looks like it will work, I have vents on it so can moderate if it gets too hot.

that oven made with the solar windshield shade, a bucket and a baking bag is very clever indeed, I have one of those I must try it out, he claims 350 degrees, that is amazing, a perfect set up for a van, cheap, easy to store, simple to set up...

Similar to the one I made, but this one is even easier all the way around.
I like the idea of using a baking bag too.
We've got plenty of the material....gonna hafta try it out.
