That is incorrect. Im quite healthy and
I've been vegan for 20 years and don't take any supplements or vitamins. Just eat healthy.

Yeah I know I try my hardest to not come off as militant but for me it can be really really really really hard. After you have seen horrible things then humans continue to make jokes about murder and think it's funny. While also continuing mis education about nutrition, my brain immediately gets lit and it takes awhile for me to step back and realize it's not attractive to non vegans.

The truth of the matter is numerous scientist have proven and backed that eliminating meat and dairy from your diet doesn't mean you have to supplement with pills. It also means you won't die or be unhealthy. Veganism is slowly taking over.. Every day a new plant based diet comes out, simply because it's wayyyyy more sustainable, if you don't care about animals, at least look at the facts that livestock is one of the leading causes of climate change, which is also proven by scientist, and it's only getting worse. The cure is switching to a plant based diet, which is obviously way more sustainable than raising animals just to be killed for meat we don't need to survive.

I agree with the be careful not to come off too militant. I don't even talk about it really. If someone finds out and asks me why I don't eat meat then I tell them, that's it. If they want to continue to have a conversation and tell me why I should eat meat then I will be glad to give them an informed debate. Otherwise I don't bother, it's my choice not theirs and I'm not here to convert everyone.

But to stay on topic, I'm worried it will be difficult on the road unless I put a mini fridge in the van for fresh produce. If I'm able to that then I will be less concerned. Yes there are plenty of dried food and can food options but I need my fresh fruits and veggies. hahaha

I'm vegan. Started eating a whole foods plant diet for health reasons, then became an ethical vegan when I learned of all the misery and suffering of farmed animals.

It helps on the road too. Cleanup is much easier, food prep is simpler, and it's inexpensive.

For me as an urban vandweller it's easy as I just go grocery shopping every couple days for fresh food.

The whole argument is stupid. There are precious few on either side of the debate who are eating PROPERLY. If you're pasty, pale and gaunt looking as a vegan/vegetarian: WRONG. If you're fat, take lots of prescription medication for life's basic functions caused by an unhealthy diet, on a meat/American diet: WRONG.

Let's just learn from each other.
ANYWAY.. I thought this thread was for the 'vegan/vegetarians' on here. Not to debate anything.

I eat both. Mostly raw vegan. I will never have a diet that makes me feel like a 'slave' to it! Deal with it.
(and don't anybody come up complaining about my usage of 'slave'. History is full of ALL ethnicities under slavery - look it up)

After adding the butter, I sometimes I add brewer's yeast, sometimes parmesan cheese, sometimes furikake and arare, and if I really want to splurge I add chocolate covered raisens!

Have NEVER touched the stuff!!  From day one when they came out with 'margarine' I was completely disgusted. lol ;)

on my popcorn I add brewers yeast with a dabble of soya sauce, tamari, or Braggs depending which I have available, sometimes if I am feeling frisky a few squirts of chilli sauce.

Hey One Awsome inch just wondering what your vitamin B was like in your blood tests, the reason I ask I have always been of the mind that if I eat a good variety that all my vitamins and protein will be taken care of and after 25 years of being at times vegan at times vegetarian, I am very healthy and never even get colds, I am slim and fit without ever going to the gym, I do ride a bike and walk a lot. I have my bloods done every year but not tested for vitamin B. My partner just tested low on vitamin B12 and she started taking a supplement, so it got me thinking and there was a thread on here that discussed vitamin B not too long ago so I decided to go out and buy some vitamin B complex pills and have been taking them for about a week, I am not sure but I think I feel a bit of a difference in my energy level. I usually like a nap mid afternoon but I have only done that once in the last week, haven't felt like it.
I agree with everyone that being passive about your vegan\vegetarianism is the best way to go, leading by example will win more hearts, There is a food revolution on at this time it is building momentum it is hard not to get excited and want to take up arms to hurry it up. Diet can cure anything, not only all diseases but also mind sets. We have time on our side vegetarians live on average 15 years longer.

Vitamin b12 is not a problem for me. I get mine from cereal and organic non -gmo soy milk. ☺

I have a Yeti Cooler, but I usually just keep the fruits in a bin. I'm usually doing urban stealth, so I'm close to a grocery store and can go often.

Here's one of the things I do: I go into Trader Joe's or wherever, and buy 3 or 4 of the following: frozen corn, frozen peas, precooked frozen brown rice, precooked frozen quinoa, and perhaps a can of no-sodium-added beans. There are lots of other possibilities here.  If I'm using beans, I'll drain the liquid into my "grey water jug."

I mix them up in a large plastic box container that I can seal and shake, add some spices and perhaps a little balsamic vinegar.  I usually add some ground flax seed, perhaps a few nuts, and perhaps a few raisins for a little sweetness.  I shake it all up and leave it out so the frozen part can thaw. Or, if it's going to be a longer time before I eat, I'll put it back in the Yeti and let it thaw more slowly. That way the frozen veggies are helping to keep the ice a tiny bit longer.

I do the mixing while still in the grocery store lot.  I then take all the empty packaging and place in the grocery store's recycling bins or trash.  That way I'm left with a tasty dish to eat right out of the plastic mixing box, and no partial packages (except for the raisins, nuts, and ground flax seeds, which I often keep on hand).  No cooking, not much cleaning, and only one container.  No fuss no muss.

Then I'll eat on the dish as one of my meals for two or three days, storing it in the cooler.  And yes, peas and corn are just fine raw. Just chew them well.  To me, these kinds of mixed dishes taste great. And the fact that I use simple, minimally processed whole foods, with no sodium or low sodium, make them healthier than if I bought pre-mixed soups and such.

I'm curious if anyone else in the community is a vegan and if so what kind of meals they are preparing themselves. With limited storage and refrigeration options I've ended up simplifying my diet down even further to foods that can be easily stored and don't require refrigeration. It kind of makes me sad because I really miss almond milk, tofu scrambles, and some of the fake meat for special occasions. So I thought I might come here and see what any experienced vandwelling vegans do.

Hi Josh,

I've been vegan for about a month, and will be mobile in two months. I like to make healthy soups filled with lots of vegetables, and I'm hoping that my cooler will keep them safe for a few days.  I also plan to eat a lot of raw fruits and veggies, plus nuts; they should keep OK. But I think that I'm going to have to make lots of trips into town for fresh fruit and veggies. Eating healthy is very important to me so, if I have to, I will give things away in order to make space for a bigger cooler.

A while back I discovered hummus, now I always have it on hand. I got a small Black and Decker food processor and that is definitely going with me. Three minutes to make and I put it on everything even on my morning bagels, or use it instead of mayonnaise but it is great as a dip -and CHEAP.

You can put anything you like in it, but here's one I like. I don't measure ingredients
a can of chick peas
a few cloves of garlic
olive oil
walnuts
a half dozen black olives
I'm vegetarian ,not vegan so I add parmesan, also a little bit of honey.
salt and pepper
You can get fancy and add cumin, ground coriander and ginger, but it's good without.

Grind it all in the food processor for 2 minutes. My machine is small so I do the beans and olive oil first, then the other stuff and mix it after. It's well worth the 2 minutes of power you'll use.
