Hey all!

I'm currently in Alaska and am spending the rest of the winter working on my van with the intentions of hitting the states in April 2014.

I'm young and dumb at the age of 24 but I feel this is the time to do it as I have no commitments whatsoever. I've always been somewhat of a gypsy dreamer, bouncing from area to area and have once again received a restless spark.

I have been working the last 4 years out of college as a purchasing agent at a local hospital and on top of that I bartend and supervise a liquor store. THREE JOBS just to support myself and have a decent place to stay in Alaska. I'm tired of devoting my time and my youth to three jobs I dont care for. I spent months of research and planning and can confidently say I am so excited to embark on this journey with myself and my dog, Moxi.

Ive been a ghost follower of the forum for a few weeks and have found everyone to be very enlightening. I'm excited to chat more with everyone of their experiences and it's also nice to know that there are others out there with the same crazy views as myself.

Peace and love,
Cait and copilot Moxi

Welcome aboard and greetings from New Zealand, where houses median half a million dollars (big city prices, living the sticks is cheaper) and you have to EARN the first 20% to be loaned the rest. I live in my RV. I understand young, dumb and restless, you hear the call and you gots to go.......at 47 I'm still not too bright and read maps for....well....I suppose you'd call it fun.....

Welcome Cait,
I've always been like you, wanderlust. I'm on my 6th VAN!! Do it while you're young!! Then you'll really know how to do it when you're older, like me hehehe...

zemio, I don't want to carry too many maps anymore cause I cannot see up close as good as I used to so I got GPS as a gift, now I like GPS coordinates and the she voice telling me where to turn...lol I haven't gotten lost in the city since, and haven't looked back yet...I can't wait to try it out for the coordinates for the GTG in Quartzite in January.

Thanks for the support, friends!

I grew up with survivalist parents in small towns of Alaska so for me, living in a van is kind of luxurious. I wont lie and say the romance of a nomadic lifestyle didnt peak my interest either. Explaining to my parents that I am doing this willingly has striked quite a chord in my family. I've always been the hippie child however, so they arent that surprised.

I figure if anything, this experience will really tell me what I do and DONT want to do with my life.

YAY!!!

Welcome

You aren't alone in your age group, I'm a bit older than you, and while most of the people in this forum (that are active anyways) seem to be somewhere over 50, doesn't mean there aren't plenty of us out here younger living in all manner of gypsy living .

Wish you lots of successes!

With Love,
Tara

Welcome and hope you like it here. It is good that you realize you don't want to waste your life on jobs that you don't care about. that's a huge step. People live and die not knowing they have that choice. You are already ahead in the game when you realize you want to enjoy life more instead of trading it away for nothing.

Safe Travels!

P.S., My fantasy would be to live in Alaska in a vehicle and fish for salmon. Do they allow that?

I know how you feel, I've always been the same way. Sometimes young and dumb is the way to go. I dove in and never looked back. Though, I'm extremely restless in East Tennessee where I am, so I'm planning on going westward next year, fairly early in the year. Arizona is the game plan- it's the more welcoming place to be when you're in this life style (in my opinion of course!!)
