I really don’t see what is any more difficult here than on any other sites one visits, where things you do or don’t do, and on your device, regulate your experience.

The forum has been sold, that’s not going to change, nor does it seem the new owners are going to try to make everything exactly as it was when Bob was the owner.

We keep going around the same bush, over and over again, and it seems to me that some not only are dissatisfied but mean to also drive others away.

We've all seen far whinier posts, by people with less impressive track records, on far sillier complaints. (In fact, sometimes, the whinier and sillier the complaint, the more people seem to fall all over themselves to help the person, including in threads that go on much, much longer than this one -- but to each his own.)

I saw zero effort to drive people away, but rather a plausible concern that the current situation could be driving people, especially newcomers, away.

One of the most classic online-forum mistakes is to assume that just because one person is not having a problem, the problem doesn't exist. ("I've been walking in Central Park at 3 am with my headphones blaring for years and I never got mugged -- don't be paranoid.")

Maybe this problem exists, maybe it doesn't. AFAIK, none of us are tech-savvy enough to make a judgment on that. Sometimes the less you know, the easier and more obvious a thing seems. (I tend to mistrust anything that starts with "it's easy / it's obvious / a 10-second Google will show you" for that reason.)

Maybe the advice given in this thread -- which = more than that given in earlier threads, IIRC, so good thing it came up again -- will solve every single post-er's ad problem. If it doesn't, I hope they bug an admin till this thing gets settled.

And hopefully whatever of this complaint trickles up to the decision-makers, they will be sufficiently businesslike to filter out the emotion and take advantage of the useful business feedback, especially regarding the impression made on potential new customers.

The persistent negativity, posted over and over again, from long time users, about how the forum has changed, is not user friendly, is over-moderated, etc., on a forum that doesn’t see hundreds or even dozens of posts many days, is not user friendly, nor constructive in any way,

I am rather badly electronically-challenged, and some things I just don't GET:
1. Bob sells the discussion board;
2. New owner sets up annoying type of advertising;
3. It irritates practically everyone, and some people don't want to deal with it, so they leave;
4. Others are pissed, and just keep hitting the X/delete when it shows up;
5. Still others know how to prevent the ads from popping up, which is fine;
6. Several show others how to prevent the ads from showing up;
7. More people, who don't want to bother with the nuisance just leave and don't come back, happy with what they learn from Bob's continuing videos.

Now, after annoying and losing a bunch of people, just how much do the new owners REALLY get out of it???

Just curious.

... If people are seeing the ads [while writing] a post...
.
While reading this timely and inspirational post, it was partly obliterated by a timely and inspirational commercial with two timely and inspirational persons of color pimping a pain-killing timely and inspirational drug dispenser... hands-free because you wear it on your belt.
.
I wear bib-overhauls, I wear zero belts.
How do I notify the algorithms?

Your opinion?

care to show us all the posts/examples you base your opinion on? sounds like ya don't like this forum, or wait, the long time users on it? very bold statement kinda :)

Faintly as in a dream, I thought I heard these words:

We are here to be helpful, kind and supportive...
Don’t judge other member’s posts or opinions...
Don’t be a know-it-all or dismissive of others...

Oh wait, it wasn't a dream -- it was here:

People had a problem. The solutions offered may or may not work for everyone. The digital world is way too complicated for "it's easy / obvious / I'm not having a problem so you shouldn't either."

If anyone HAS tried the suggested solutions and is still having a problem, this thread has gotten too snarky, dismissive, and divisive to be much use. I suggest that any continuing practical concerns move to the "how to turn off ads" thread here
https://vanlivingforum.com/threads/how-to-turn-off-ads-when-logged-in.44829/
I for one would like to know how it turns out.

The way tech problems get solved is to continue working on them -- not to start dumping on people for having the temerity to complain. If you've met your personal quota of complaints, try drawing your own personal line (e.g. by not reading threads with "sux" in the title) instead of trying to set the line for everyone else.

For Pete's sake, if this problem actually can be solved (and, once again, just because it has been solved for you on yoiur device does NOT mean it has been solved for everyone), that should be a happy thing, not a reason to get at each other's throats.
