This is a 1973 Chevy Box (bread) truck that was converted to an RV by my father. He did an amazing job but time has caught up with him an he's no longer able to go to his NASCAR race's. This truck has hook ups for power, fresh water, fresh water tank with demand pump and a grey water tank. It has 4 custom made bunk beds that convert to couches. It has all the comforts of home. Sink, gas stove, toilet, beds.,1000 watt power inverter new battery's and more. It has a Chevy crate motor with about 30,000 miles on it as well as a turbo 400 auto trans that was rebuilt about 4000 miles ago.
All this truck needs is a coat of paint and a NASCAR or camping fan.

(Yes, I read the other thread about older vehicles) this is my price range right now (meaning guy said he may take my current vehicle and a small amount of cash in trade) Thoughts, comments, suggestions . . .?
Awesome, see my avatar you will see I like trucks!
Mine is a diesel and gets better mileage than my Astro Van which I use for work. It is also nicer to drive than the Asto, go figure.

I kinda like the room, compared to living in a car it is a penthouse!

You can do anything with the inside you want, so much room so many options. The only problem with those are they are like driving a brick so it will not get as good as mileage as mine but take it and have fun. It will also blend in so parking will not be much of an issue if that is needed.

If it were me, I'd grab it!

This is exactly the type of vehicle I am looking for to build what I envision as a rolling home. There are several things you can do to improve the stiff ride, and the roof is perfect for eventually adding solar panels.

have someone you trust check out the mechanical, steering, exhaust, and undercarriage. Only a very rusted frame would put me off.

I like that it has what I need to survive and I can build to a happy place to live for sure.
I think it's a cool idea. Do you have a " plan B " or backup vehicle in case of a breakdown or going into town? The fact that your dad built it and you are already familiar with it is a DEFINATE bonus.

lol My dad didn't build it - that's a CL ad. I plan on getting a small scooter for getting around locally.
Cherry,

My version:

A (rolling) cabin with plenty of food is better than a hungry castle.

I'm Irish, too.

Love it! I love the open space, a blank canvas for whatever. but more than that the simplicity.

It is the simplicity. I am so excited about my move. I'm 4 days away from moving into my vehicle full time. It's still hot down here in Texas but what the hey... Can't be perfect.

That looks great! Being able to stand upright will be wonderful. It also has a tall, flat roof for plenty of solar panels or a deck down the line. I like it but check everything out. Feel the steering out, drive it awhile then park on cardboard and look for leaks, jack up the front end and wiggle the tires back and forth with your hands looking for lot's of play, check the fluids etc. etc. It would be terrible to get surprised down the road. I love older vehicles but you have to factor in planned replacements. Steering gear boxes get dodgy, water pumps go, alternators stop working, fuel pumps quit, fuel filters get fouled blah blah blah.....on the other hand, that thing looks Bad-A**!
