Hey all ..

I'm going to look at this morning (Tuesday 9-12-17).

Open to input ...  Here is the link:

Also considering a Fort Transit 150  - $15,888 - 55.5K miles - 3.7L  (low roof, sliding passenger door)

Here is the link for that van:

Not trying to flame the fires of GMC/Chevy vs Ford. Have been told I need to consider the Transit.

Thank you for any input you have.

(I may be making the switch sooner than anticipated .. going into dealership this morning  for transmission problem with my current car. Yikes!)

Ooops ... just realized that the Transit is a salvaged title. Maybe not so good....

I'd be partial to the express myself. I like the style and it's a proven solid design. I've heard good things about the smaller ford engines. I'm partial to a big lazy V8 for reliability myself.

Just be aware the Chevy is a previous daily rental. I've always been skeptical of the rental agency's maintenance and the driving habits of renters.

True .. it was a rental.

It was bought at auction in Arizona but that probably means nothing for a rental car. Who knows where it came from.

I've also been told that is a top dollar ... seemed like a pretty good deal to me but what do I know? (not much)

Realistically, I am probably going to be a part-timer.
I like gardening too much to live on the road all the time.

So I need a double duty car that is practical for the city (good gas mileage) but with enough room to camp in/out of for a few months at a time (probably in the summer).

Thought my Honda CR-V could work (take seats out) but am learning about their transmission issues first hand.
If this costs too much, I will jump the Honda ship and never look back.
This is the second one I have had fall apart on me.

The Fort Transit Connect is an option I haven't looked into but sounds like they may be way under-powered.
Maybe a more conventional mini-van like a Sienna or Odyssey?

I'm all over the map on this one, I know.

A couple of things...
It has several options I wish mine had, cruise, tilt wheel, the shift switch option, power door locks, power windows.
But it does not have the following options... CD player, and it is not an extended chassis, which adds 20 inches to the between the wheels, meaning, there is no rear overhang and turn issues like the fords have with an extended chassis...

I like that the mileage is low, that means the warranty will be available longer for you...
For reference, my 2008 extended 3500 cost us around 13k, and I added cruise(200), and front seats(350), rear floor mat(350) and had around 121k miles.... No tilt, no cd...

We are ok with what we got, and ok with what we paid. Some will hint it was high, some will say we should have done this or that, whatever...

I say if your ok with out the extra 20 inches, and you like it, go for it!!

Probably U-Haul, their vans are listed as rentals on the Carfax and come out of AZ. Guess that's where their corporate office is?

Sounds like yes Toyota Sienna, Honda Odyssey would suit you.

Excellent reliability, low cost per mile over time, get a low mileage one with good maintenance records should have few problems.

Which means strong resale values, double-edged sword that.

I avoid dealers, buy private, trust your gut but also pay a good mechanic to give it a solid going through first.

If you don't mind traveling a bit, there are a lot of the Uhaul used vans on the market right now. I don't think there is anything wrong with buying one, but I'd look for one with less mileage so it has more of the factory warranty left on it, should it have any issues, you'd be covered.

Here's one with only 6k miles for almost the same price

One for the same price with 17k miles

I know it can be a hassle to buy far from home base and there's a little added expense in doing so. But just throwing out another option. I don't think you can go wrong with an Express Van in general, they are tried and true and all around great vehicles.

Don't forget, there will be a lottt of flood vehicles out there Very soon!!!

Be very alert!!!

I heard over half a BILLION cars and trucks will be damaged vis Harvey and Irma storms due to flooding!!!

I'm guessing a half million cars sounds more realistic.  Half billion cars is 180 million more cars than there are people in this country.

Wow .. those are like almost brand new vans!
The one in New Jersey comes with free maintenance .. might be a long way to go for an oil change....
The second link shows  KBB OF $18,999.
May have to swim to get to the one in Miami.
The DFW dealers are saying that lots of people from the coast are looking for cars now.
Of course, they will always say whatever to get you to buy.  Doesn't look like prices have gone up too much yet.

You folks to the east sure do have good prices on vans (& everything else).

Here in California, that same van would be $24,000.  I know, I've looked.   :s

Oops, I've said before, math is not one of my strong points!!!
But the true value of my comments were to be meant as a warning...

Sorry to add any confusion....

A minivan could be a good compromise. I am content in my previa.
