Gone from old camper build:

Little buddy heater, 10' propane hose, 20 lbs of propane and cylinder, Coleman powerpack stove=45 pouinds

Add to TC build:

Trangia model 27 stove, 1.25 gal of methanol, one gallon plastic fuel can (old type with vent), spun aluminum bottle with pour spout, brand new docooler camping pot and fry pan set= 13 pounds

32 pounds saved

Just be sure to vent well, even the purest methanol fumes are toxic, personally I'd only use outdoors.

With ethanol, they only add enough methanol to "denature" it, i.e. make it poisonous so you don't drink it to cheat the tax man.

Just a note in passing, I'd have shouted this out had I seen the ideas before purchases made too, sorry - Alcohol is feared on boats; yes it is handy and seems friendlier to have around than X and Y, with less hazards than butane/propane but...  it burns with an invisible flame. A person can be screaming & dancing around, clothes melting to them and people nearby will not be able to tell they are 'on fire'.

I personally know a kid who was in the back seat of a moving car and got high-proof liquor spilled on him that ignited and left him scarred over 20% of his body, and the others in the car were clueless what was happening for the first 10 or 15 seconds.

Do not approach refueling casually - outdoors only and have strict discipline and procedures on who, how & when the stove gets used - and store the bulk fuel in double shell of metal containers...

I will be buying a gallon of denatured alcohol at Home Despot this week along with the wood to make my bed platform and zinc plated punch angle bracket to fasten my solar panels to a roof rack.

I have four bottles of yellow heat left in stock and will use them up in the great outdoors.

The ability to restock the fuel from most Home Despots is a plus.

Good. But other caveats still apply wrt fire dangers too, just like messing with gasoline indoors
