very cool sliding out feature!
quick question on the height --> was there a particular reason for the height of the wood frame?

ah, nevermind -- went to the imgur and saw that the height is for battery storage

I really like the slide out bed. Works if I go alone or if Hubby comes with me for a week or so. Thanks.

For me it was about being able to get my 26 foot A frame ladder in along with my tools and equipment for my job, but wanted to have room for the GF for weekend getaways

Yes it's for the batteries to go under the front, assuming I decide to put them there when I get them. It was a v1 bed we built so it may be updated or rebuilt in the future once I get more built in there, but for now it's great!

The only problem I see with this bed is that you lose storage. The whole place that extends you have to keep that area clear in order to extend it. I can see this being practical if you need to gain some floor space for transporting items like a bicycle or loading some stuff up and unloading it when you get to camp.

I would simply buy something like that:

I did not follow this advice with my own Grand Caravan build... https://vanlivingforum.com/showthread.php?tid=38161 but my needs are very different... and my floor is uneven...

I have that Futon Frame in my cargo trailer with a Big Lots mattress.
Not much space underneath for storage and it is not too easy to open (flatten) out.
I don't open mine up and leave it like a couch and have it on bed risers for under storage.
The futon is very comfortable when in couch mode.

Nicely done. You will figure it all out for storage once you are on the road. Everyone seems to end up making changes over time because it is difficult to completely predict how things go.

Remember there is no one single solution, there are many solutions that are viable and comfortable. But of course lots of people will respond and tell you how they did it in their build.
