Fingers crossed and saying a prayer...found a Chevy 5.3 V-8 with 120,147 miles and I'm awaiting a text message back to see if I can go look at it tomorrow. I found a mechanic called "Redeemed Repair" and he happens to be a Christian which I'm a quite happy about. I have a message into him as well so hopefully everything falls into place so that I can go look at it and drive it and have the mechanic look at it. It's a bit out of my price range...was hoping for $3500 or under...What should I be asking?

Here is what he has done recently to it:

runs great, the body and undercarriage are super clean.

previously a utility company van, fleet maintained

120 volt inverter

new rotors, pads one caliper, plugs and wires and and regular service completed

need tires. $5,000

always replace brake parts in pairs. what you do to one side you do to the other. so the replace one caliper is kinda a red flag that they were doing repairs on the cheap. check all maintenance records with a fine tooth comb. highdesertranger

Being a 2005 vehicle it's probably been out of Fleet service for 10 years, maybe more. And Fleet maint. isn't all it used to be 20-30 years ago. I'd ask the mechanic to let you walk around and see under the Van when he does your pre-purchase inspection. Ask him to talk about what he see's and specifically about any repair now Vs repair next years items he finds.

Don't know where your located but $5k is high for a 05 Van.

Oh and forgot to state the obvious, make sure your mechanic gives you an estimate of what those current and future repairs will cost.

just my ol 3¢
