Hi. Got a link to this site from a members sister I am friends with. We sold our house 2 years ago. Based in Canada. Right now near Reno, got a battery issue fixed so our next stop at Bonneyville we would like to park on the salt flats for a few days. Anyone reading done so?

Welcome!! I have been to the salt flats yet, but it’s on my bucket list. I am no ful time yet, three times a year I plan a long trip, then in between I go on short trips in between.

My bucket list has almost 20 places I would like to see.

I haven't been to the Bonneville Salt Flats. A member on this forum posted about his experience some time back.

His report indicated that one has to be careful of the salt causing corrosion, same as when roads were salted in winter to melt ice.

Use the search function to look for older posts with "Salt Flats".

We were there a wet year for speed week and left little piles of salt everywhere we parked for the next several months!

WOW, I never thought about the aftermath of parking on the salt flats. You guys have given me a topic to research. Have those of you who camped out on the flats noticed any rust spots under your rigs?

Only went the one time and had undercoated everything plus poured trans fluid in areas we couldn't reach. Even after several pressure washing attempts still had little piles of salt after driving wet roads. It was an older vehicle with over 300,000 miles so I gave it to a needy friend when he needed transportation, still showed little sign of rusting but we do only get rain maybe once or twice a year in the high desert southwest. Many people buy vehicles from our area because there is little rust but sand gets between panels and when taken to humid areas of the country the sand collects moisture and rusts out quickly which is how we came to pour oil in those areas to prevent moisture build up when we go to places like the Gulf coast. I can't imagine the amount of salt we had come out helped matters.
