I need a 12-volt freezer.

Anyone have one that is around a 30L - 40L in size and know what it's actual power consumption is?

I have a TB51 truck fridge, which I'm happy with. So I looked at the 30-40 liter versions, but they use about the same power as my 50. I would like to find something that uses less if smaller in size.

I have diabetes and mainly all I eat is chicken. So I want to be able to freeze several weeks worth.

I have the Engel MT 45 40 Quart 12 volt chest fridge/freezer. It holds a lot more than I thought it would. I beieve the numbers you are after is under 3 amps if used as a fridge and under 5 amps if used as a freezer. The only thing is it is built as a portable and it shows. I need to encase most of it in two inch foam to keep it from running nearly constantly when it is hot.

I endorse the Engel suggestion. Sounds like the MT35FP model would be worth a look. The swing motor draws 2.5 Amps when running so daily power consumption will depend on duty cycle. A bit more insulation around the cabinet and good ventilation of the external parts of the system will improve power consumption numbers.

X2 on the Engel's. on mine if I use one as a freezer what I do is I turn it all the down. the dial goes from 1 to 6. so I turn it to 6 for between 12 and 24 hours. then I can turn it back up to about 3. this keeps everything frozen rock hard and keeps the duty cycle down. with my Engel's it's very hard to use them to defrost anything inside the box, you would basically have to turn them off and then it would still take a couple of days. highdesertranger

If all of the units were charted on a line graph you would see that there is actually not a smooth line difference on the graphs for power consumption in the equations of size versus electrical useage. There are a number of factors that influence that.

I use my single device as a freezer and my old cooler as the 'refrigerator'.
