...back to the 6 days a week rat race that is

Hello everyone full timing in my Grand Cherokee 4x4 almost a year now and thought I'd chime in since I been lurking a few months. My family is all over me about it but they just don't understand it is a choice I've made. I am working on getting an astro awd cargo... had 3 grand and drove to Ohio to look at one which seemed to good to be true but when I got there you could see the ground when you opened the slide! I was a bit upset to say the least since he swore it didn't have rust over the phone and before I drove the 6+ hrs to go view it. My choice is narrow, 97 or 98 awd cargo... so I've been willing to drive some distance to view them. I am a mechanic of over 25 years and issues just spell cheaper price for me lol.

I have purchased some basic needs so far like a set of trojan t105's and a fantastic vent fan that I can not attach to the jeep (bought it in anticipation) so I just mount it in the passenger rear door window during last summer. Got my portable mr buddy keeping me toasty at the moment hooked into the 20lber with the filterless hose kit amongst other things such as my single burner camp stove and some pots and pans, (it's cubed steak, onions and gravy atleast 3 times a week) love that stuff.

it's good to read the articles here and although I am the only one I know doing this it is refreshing to find there are others out there...

btw I work 3 days a week now I'm retiring early... I'll be 40 in a few yrs!

First off, welcome!

Secondly, you mentioned that you are fulltiming in a Cherokee. Congrats!

How well do you stealth in it?

Do you have any techniques or methods or advice for blacking out your windows to sleep at nite?

-thanks in advance!

well I'm not actually stealthing it, I usually hit a trail or some random field at the moment, hence the 4x4. I haven't blacked out the windows so I have no advise on that one sorry... I usually end up about 10 mins outside the beltway here, although I prefer the woods and fields I would like to keep the stealth option open to me so I may be able to stay inner beltway sometime, it's just not my idea of what I refer to as "camping" presently

I am going to have to put a small lift kit and a few other goodies on the astro awd when I get it this summer, I just don't know if I would even consider doing this or have considered it without 4x4. I am going to be sure to keep the jeep a little while after the van purchase just to be sure.

Welcome indeed car camping is cheap easy and fun go do it. Used to camp in my 1958 Porsch Off road was a bit tough but I found a few dirt roads in the Big Sur area ah the good ol days.

Hello and welcome!

I have been using a Mr. Heater Little Buddy for two winters now. I've used the 20# tank and filterless hose with great success. It's a fine heater, even in cold Iowa. It sounds like you're having fun in the Grand Cherokee!

You're among friends here. I look forward to your posts and insight.

By the way, what part of the country are you in?

Brad aka "V.T."
