How much wattage needed to heat a van in 12-32 deg. temps?

I was just wondering what the nitty-gritty numbers are when it comes to how much of a heater you'd need, wattage-wise, to heat a van in those temps. Assume the van is reasonably well insulated and there is a somewhat thick dividing curtain between the front and back. Also assume this is a...

A few Qs and statements about staying cool/AC

Concerning the matter of air conditioning and staying cool, well, I hate to mention this again, but I do not tolerate heat well, and I know that staying cool is going to be an issue for me when I'm out there doing my van living. I have yet to come up with any viable solutions as to how I'm...

    O2 safety in a van

Someone here not too long ago said it was "impossible" to run out of or displace a critical/needed amount of O2 in a van with one person inside it, everything closed up. Um, are we sure about that? And i mean "bet-your-life" sure? What says that can't happen? Where is the granite slab with that...

why all the debate about heaters? seems easily answered..

The E150 is one of those things which, to me, all but cinches it as far as whether G-d exists or not. Like all of us...

    A few Qs about generators.

Do any of us have or use gasoline powered external generators? Been thinking i may need or at least be better off with one. Maybe something merely sub-2k watts. Not for routne use, but for when you really need to have that ceramic heater going and you're nowhere near an external power hookup...

how do you store clothing? seeems to take up so much space.

When you think about it, our music, pictures, mail and books all fit into essentially zero space these days. But our clothing does not. So it comes to pass that the only ligistical problem i can really see concerning van life is that of finding enough space to keep about a week's worth of clean...

air conditioning and staying cool.......how to do it?

I do not handle heat well, so my van, when i get it, is prob going to also have some kind of AC that is NOT the factory-installed AC. Fasctory AC is only for when i'm driv g thbe van. Sooooooo....this thread is not about-nor should it turn into-a discussion about factory installed...

who i am and why i'm here........

My name is Jeff. First time poster, short time lurker. I am writing here and on this occasion to intro myself. I do not now live in a van but i've been thinking about it for some time now. I saw those 100-120 sq ft houses, called Tumbleweed homes on trailers which some have taken to living in...
