    Replacement rv/trailer door locks

I think the locksmith might be the way to go since I’m full time months road. It will be easier to take all the locks to him by driving to his shop than to order ones online, pick them up somewhere, then install them or return them if they don’t fit.

    Replacement rv/trailer door locks

I’ve got 3 doors on my Runaway Camper each using a different (yet identical looking) key. Each door has a handle lock and a deadbolt. It is making me nuts locking and unlocking these.  I looked at the two digital RV keypad options. They want 249 per lock! I thought about installing a normal...

bicycling in BLM and NF land

I gave away my cruiser and my old mountain bike before going on the road. So far, in 3 weeks and 6 different BLM/NF campsites, I could have used the MB once or twice and the cruiser never. I’m glad I ditched them because having them on the rear hitch of my rig would have made opening the galley...

Coleman propane stove with connection to large tank

I cook outside because there’s no room inside. I bring my stove in at night to keep the critters away and because the winds have been so strong I was worried it might get blown off the table. When I disconnected it I heard the pressure release and would hear and smell more than a little propane...

Coleman propane stove with connection to large tank

I’ve got a Coleman 2 burner stove connected to an 11lb propane tank using a hose from Home Depot. It works great for cooking. However, with my propane grill at home I would always turn the tank off then let the proposer from the hose “burn out” or run off then turn off the grill. When I try to...

Dealing with the wind in the desert

I left my camp in Douglas AZ and have moved to a Coronado National Forest site near the base of the mountains near Tombstone. It’s still windy but there’s more grass here that about 2 feet tall. That seems to keep the dust down a bit. I think the mountains must also offer some wind...

    Dog and laundromat

I found a laundromat called bright wash in Douglas. It was clean and 1.25 a load. I tossed in my load, walked the dog for 20 minutes then came back and took my stuff back to camp to hang dry. Parking is in front and back so if there are any others in Douglas later, it’s super convenient to sit...

Dealing with the wind in the desert

Being new to the desert, I’m learning to deal with high winds every afternoon and looking for tips. I’m in squaredrop runaway camper with only about 42” of height so I’d prefer to be outside as much as possible.  So far, I put everything away that’s outside around 11am otherwise it blows away...

    Dog and laundromat

I’m going to need to do a load of laundry every few weeks and am wondering what other solo travelers do with their dog. Are you taking your dog into the laundromat? I won’t leave my dog in the car when it’s this hot in the day (80s) I might be going at night or going to a truck stop where I...

    Cost for propane refill

I filled it at a gas station in or near Willcox AZ off of interstate 10. I paid $6-$8 for the 11lb tank fillup.

Any reason I “should” unhitch my trailer?

I’m pulling a 6x8 runaway venturist trailer behind my truck.  So far I’ve only spent one night in any place so I’ve not unhitched it. This makes it easier to break camp and take off in the morning.  However, now that I’m boondocking on blm land, I plan to stay in one place for at least a week...

Is it unusually windy in SE New Mexico desert near Carlsbad Caverns

Thanks guys. I’m outta here and I’m going to Phoenix or Tucson for now then. I spent the last 13 years in South Florida and Raleigh NC. 35 at night is a little too cold for me and Snickers.

Is it unusually windy in SE New Mexico desert near Carlsbad Caverns

I’m boondocked in the desert for the first time near Whites City in SE NM.  The winds were quite strong today so even though it was 50 degrees, me and my dog were freezing when we were outside.  Is it windy like this in other parts of the NM and AZ desert this time of year?

    Cost for propane refill

Propane is $2.99 per lb at Loves Truck stop. Should I fill my new 11lb tank here or will I find a better price closer to BLM land in a small town?  An exchange of a big 15 lb cylinder is cheaper at Wal-Mart but the 11 lb tank is what I have strapped on my rig.

    Which verizon plan?

According to the Ts and Cs, it's subject to "network management" during times of congestion but it doesn't have a cliff like the Verizon postpaid plans or your mobley. I haven't but it to the test fully yet but I imagine when the cell towers are jammed, we all will have slower speeds.

    Which verizon plan?

I decided to keep my airvoice wireless (ATT mvno) and current android phone for now. I looked at a number of Verizon plans and iphones. As much as I’d like the simplicity and state of the art tech with the new iPhone, I don't really need one. My old Moto G does everything I need. I’ll need to...

    Which verizon plan?

I plan to boondock in AZ, NM, Colorado and BLM areas in the Rockies primarily. I have Airmobile (AT&T MVNO) prepaid today with unlimited talk/text and 2 gb data for $27/ month but I also have Comcast and am consuming 50-100gb monthly via my cable internet. I use an unlocked android phone.  When...

    Suitcase solar grounding question

I am building an all Renogy setup. Portable 200 watt suitcase panel with integrated controller connected to two 12v agm batteries. Off the batteries I’ll have a cigarette socket adapter and an inverter. I am using this to power a whynter fridge 24/7, laptop, cellphone, lights and maybe a...

Is this a reasonable solar setup plan?

Please tell me if this sounds like a reasonable solar setup.  1. Renogy 200 watt portable suitcase system with included charge controller 2. 2x Renogy 12v 100 amp hour agm batteries  3. Renogy pure sine wave inverter 1000w I will be running a Whynter 65qt fridge (24/7), plus various devices...
