    Car, Car.... Truck?

Thanks. Right, it isn't MY first choice, but if it's what gets my BF motivated to get us out on some little trips, I'll deal. I want to save up and get a decent towing vehicle, but whatever. We're pretty sensible people. I really appreciate the suggestions here.

    Car, Car.... Truck?

Hmm odd. I just checked the link and it works for me. Sorry. :/

    Car, Car.... Truck?

    Now, that is amazing.

    Car, Car.... Truck?

No way is there a trailer hitch for a Fit, but a person can have a hitch installed, if they are determined to do so, or install it oneself.

    Car, Car.... Truck?

My BF is the one convinced that towing with the Fit is workable. This is all good info for him, if he insists on it. He wants us to chug along at 45mph in 3rd gear. I mean, it's his car, if he wants to risk it. Might be feasible  with a super light 'foamie' for short distances, but not my choice.

    Car, Car.... Truck?

That's kind of an unfair statement, considering the fact that I've been paying attention to all of the advice offered here.

    Car, Car.... Truck?

It's a 2012 5-spd Automatic. We also have a 2013 Manual transmission. Trust me, towing something with one of these cars is not my favorite idea, but if we end up doing it, we're definitely not going to point fingers at anyone here. I can't imagine Honda condoning towing anything with this car...

    Car, Car.... Truck?

The 'foamie' idea is interesting - I don't see a way to register at the site, but I'll show him the info. I'm sure he will be interested. In the meantime, I'm savin' up for a v6 lol

I'll have to check that out - thank you :)

    Car, Car.... Truck?

Gosh, I appreciate the concern... I hope you saw that we are considering several different options and I'm actually pushing for a separate towing vehicle for a small camper/trailer.

    Car, Car.... Truck?

Thank you. I'm thinking something like a Jeep Liberty v6 automatic transmission would be ideal for us, BF is balking at it though, so we'll see. He is considering a 5x8 aluminum flatbed trailer that weighs under 200lbs, with plans to build something lightweight on top of that. I guess if we had...

A 6 cylinder should be ok though, shouldn't it? From my estimation, we're looking at towing something under 2k lbs.

    Car, Car.... Truck?

I agree. I can't imagine our little car hauling 1k lbs extra up a 7% grade for several miles, even in 3rd gear. Too risky in my opinion.

    Car, Car.... Truck?

That's my thought process. Lots of good info in your post. Thanks. :) I think something like a Suburban, or smaller SUV would be great, along with a smallish camper. We're debating what we really want/need as far as amenities.

    Car, Car.... Truck?

Well, there are mixed messages. I'm pretty sure Honda doesn't recommend towing anything much with the Honda Fit. However, my partner has read some of the Fit forums and there is a person who talked about towing a 1k lb trailer, cross country with one, using a transmission cooler and driving in...

    Car, Car.... Truck?

I wasn't sure where to post about our search for the ideal solution, so here I go. We currently have 2 very small cars (Honda Fit). We are exploring the idea of buying a trailer/camper type thing for short trips now, and possible extended use in future years, possibly even full time after...

    Hello folks!

I will go check it out. I've already goofed up once (who ever really reads the rules anyway? Heh) Thanks for the welcome. This is a great resource.

    Hello folks!

We are a family of three. I run a computer repair shop and I have an 11yr old son. I have had a dream of doing the road-home 'thing' since I was in my 20s, when I *almost* bought a cheap VW bus to follow the Grateful Dead (lol). My partner is the County Engineer (Civil) and this is a new idea...

    77 GMC Motor Home Questions

Thank you for the suggestion. We were only considering the GMC  because it's owned by our friend. We actually want something much smaller and preferably a pull behind, which means we will also have to buy something to pull it with. I'll be posting a separate thread on that subject. :)
